So, somehow I'm on the mailing list of "The American Conservative"

It's probably because of that book I ordered online from what turned out to be a libertarian bookstore -- but that's neither here nor there. The good part is that just today I got a subscription come-on from "The American Conservative" -- and it's full of enough crunchy paleocon goodness to warm any DU'er's heart. Here are a few choice quotes (excessive underlining and italics all theirs):

"Yes, trouble for conservatives is here, with more on the way -- lots more ..."

"Do you have a queasy feeling that something is horribly wrong with American conservatism today? Like our ship has gone way off course?"

"Look at the 'laundry list' below and tell me if it's your brand of 'conservatism.' (My money says it's not even remotely your idea of "conservatism!')"

"Imperial adventuring in Iraq ... hundreds of Americans killed in urban guerrilla warfare, with more to be killed almost every day ... billions of dollars squandered, with untold billions more yet to be dumped into the Iraqi rat hole -- all with no end in sight!"


It goes on to rant about immigration, outsourcing, federal control of education, and neocon foreign policy ("disastrous foreign policies that are the hallmark of George W. Bush's presidency.")

Not surprisingly, the magazine is the doing of Pat Buchanan and a couple of his friends. And while there are enough things about the magazine to make liberals squirm (like opposition to abortion and gay marriage), the majority of its contents seem to be articles like "Free Martha Stewart!" and "how broadcast giant Clear Channel yanked the microphone from a conservative, simply becaue he's anti-war."

Frankly, I wish them all success with their chosen market.

They have pretty good articles and i like watching the Right tear themselves apart. Since the neocons are on the defensive because of their failure in Iraq, the paleocons should make some good progress in the coming years, especially if Bush loses the next election.
