US to execute former hostage because he wasn't actually executed?
Don't really see any threads on the "Conspiracy theory" that the military is pushing regarding the most recent hostage.

Apparently because he wasn't executed and got through Syria to Lebanon, they are considering that the kidnapping was a hoax and thus he is open to desertion charges carrying the death penalty.

America - we'll sentence a guy to death for not being murdered.

2. It depends on the details
If he was part of staging the hoax with terrorist conspirators, then I say fry him.

If he escaped to Lebanon because that was the safest method of getting away from his captors, and he returns to the military, then punishment is hardly warranted.

If was truly captured and has now deserted, he should be punished for deserting, but execution is hardly fitting.

3. Not sure if the death penalty applies to a non-declared war...
I think desertion in time of war means a war declared by congress. I don't know if they could apply it to chimpy's illegal invasion.

5. yeah, that about sums it up
Speaking of "desertion charges" there is also another guy from Texas who was AWOL long enough to be legally a deserter. Instead of riding in his brothers truck to Lebanon, dumya drove his Chevy to another state.

6. They are saying he's a possible deserter.
The taken captive part was a scam, and he just deserted his position in the military to escape.

The execution part you heard is that desertion during a war is punishable by death.

7. My understanding of the UCMJ is the death penalty can only...
...be given for desertion during a time of war. The US has not been in a state of declared war since WW II.

8. I can't speak to the UCMJ. But GWB would disagree with you.
He thinks we're at war. He keeps telling everybody that!

I truely don't know what is required to determine if we are or not. Seems Congress gave shrub the authority to go to war if he determined it was the last resort. He sent the military to invade another Country (last resort or not). Does that constitute going to war? I think so, but legally, under the UCMJ, I don't know.
