Tom Ridge, the alleged mastermind of the shadowy "Homeland Security" organization, made an appearance on American television today, posing a threat to the "democratic process" in the United States as it approaches its presidential election.

Secretary Ridge said the nation's two major political parties' conventions, the Democratic fete in Boston and the Republican event in New York, were possible targets.

He was unwilling to provide any specifics about the threat.

American media were quick to question the possible ramifications of the threat, particularly in relation to the election.

Many referred to the bombing of the railway station in Madrid just prior to the Spanish national election.

Although the attack had no effect on the outcome of the Spanish electorate's choice, American sources noted the "possibility" that a bombing in the United States could "conceivably" effect the US election.

Critics of the US administration questioned the timing of the threat announcement in the national election process.

At press time, there have been no objective verifications of the threats and no response from the "Homeland Security" for more information.
