Allay my fears, DU...Can Bush knock Kerry off the radar like this?
I admit, I have not been "tuned in" to an election before, so I have no idea what the patterns are, or what to expect. I am a bit shaken, though, by the fact that Bushco has managed to stop any "mainstream" nightly news outlets from even mentioning Kerry. It also seems like the lies (improving economy, a placid Iraq, etc.) are getting all the airplay tonight.

Will this push and pull keep happing right up to the last minute? Should I just stop worrying about whether or not Kerry is down today?

1. Wait ten minutes and the news will change - press has ADHD if you
hadn't noticed.

2. exactly...
it's not even desirable for the news to be all Kerry, all the time.

7. LOL--- Well, so do I, so maybe that's why I get so rattled by this.
It's like watching my own brain! A very existential crisis.

3. A placid Iraq?
We've lost 4 basketball starting squads worth of men this month already. Passing strange....

10. I'm saying that the only place I find out the real story is at DU, Kos,

Salon, and sometimes the wires. But 50% of the country only watches the networks at 10pm before bed; they only get the propaganda and shadows, and they may not turn around to see the shadow-makers.

4. Stop worrying. This ploy by Bush has backfired.
And I don't know what news you've been watching, but Kerry has been one of two big stories.

No one's buying the terror-alert thing. Not even the cable whores.

11. I sat and watched ABC 7 in Chicago. Not one Kerry story.
All terror, Jack Ryan, and sports.

5. There was a good amount of Kerry tonight on cable.
There was also a lot of speculation that the terror stuff was politically motivated.

15. See, I wish that I could afford cable to see it.
What percentage of the population has cable and uses it for more that the Spice Channel and Six Feet Under?

6. Kerry got two and a half days of coverage
Edited on Thu Jul-08-04 10:39 PM by Massacure
I'm sure that is enough for now. You don't want the people to get bored of him. ;)

12. True.
But where are the rebuttals? Only on cable and DU?

8. Bush can't do shit. he lacks the balls
you saw the photo of Bush running away when the Kenny-Boy Lay question was asked.
When pushed, people become somewhat predictable and do what they always do in similar circumstances...Bush has this habit of fleeing and letting others clean up his mess.

His attack machine is good at hogging the news, but the American populace are catching on to the coward in chief and he is about to be tossed out of 1600 Pennsylvannia Ave come Nov 2nd.

13. Yeah, but there was no mention of that on the networks.
At least not on ABC 7 in Chicago. The sheeple don't see it. If they don't see it, how will they catch on?

I'm not really panicking, I just wonder if this is normal.

9. K&E will rise again
Edited on Thu Jul-08-04 10:44 PM by Lancer
The convention is coming in 2 1/2 weeks, and K&E will get a big bounce which I think they can sustain. Edwards' speech is already highly anticipated. Kerry & Edwards may get as much as a 10-15 point boost following the convention.

The Bushies' attacks on both halves of the Dem ticket are going to be like nothing we have ever seen. They will be vicious and absolutely ruthless. Edwards never, ever stoops to his opponents' level, and I think Kerry will pick up on Edwards' optimism and stay above the fray, too.

I honestly think a lot of the Bushies' attempts at misdirection will backfire, and only increase support for K&E.

Please God, let me be right.

14. And I'm not saying that they've fallen.
I think you are right.

Perhaps I should just get off of DU and start volunteering.

16. Bush* can knock Kerry off the radar temporarily--anytime.
He's the pResident and has the bully pulpit. He can pull the levers of government to make "news"--ala phony jobs numbers or terror threats. He also has a corporate media desperate for his election.

17. I'm here in Chicago too and
I worry about the same thing. DU is an oasis in a sea of right-wing/conservative media for this region. I've got MSNBC, CNN, CSPAN1 and 2 during the day and if it's complete Bush lovefest on one channel, I'll switch. If it's all channels, it goes off. The radio's no better. I don't listen to the radio on Saturdays, generally, and I guess that's the only day that stations like WLS have voices from leaning left of the hard-right over the airwaves. I miss having AAR soooo much when I get in the car. :(

Keep the faith though...there are other DUers and Dems in the area and you are not alone. :) Even in what I call this bastion of Republican propogation, more and more people are moving away from Bush toward Kerry! *woo hoo*
