What did Whoopie say at the Dem fundraiser that has the Pubs
in such a tizzy? I've heard this quite a few times this morning. At the big fundraiser last night in NY, "Whoopie made some very crude remarks about the President, actually using his name."

Just heard it AGAIN on CNN. They are asking if there might be a reference to this when the Pres. speaks tonight about "values"

Anybody know what she said?

I can just see the GOP using the Edwards reference in their ads. Guess she wasn't thinking...

9. Self censorship is unhealthy, of course
I am not saying she should have not talked at all. But I wish she would not have kept referring to Edwards as looking like an 18 year old, etc. This gives BushCo, who is trying to paint him as inexperienced ammunition rather than helping Kerry/Edwards. I just wish she would have put some more thought into her comments. I certainly don't condone censorship but that doesn't mean it isn't a good idea to think a little more in a situation like this.

12. Oh, bull. The NeoCons can't discredit Whoopi like they're trying to do...
...right now, and then turn around and use her comments to somehow cast Edwards in a bad light.

Additionally, I'm getting real tired of the GOP taking away civil liberties...why would I support limiting the free speech of ANY of my fellow Democrats??

old so why are you worried about something like that??? Why could you possibly care what a party of criminals thinks about this????? Quit catering to their sick mind-set.

on her own time. What she says at a sanctioned event reflects on the candidate.

There's a time and place for everything.

30. I don't agree
If we are going to run scared every time the RNC and these Repuke talking heads MANUFACTURE a faux-outrage then we have no business asking ANYone to perform at our events.

What did she say that was so horrible? Nothing.

And frankly, I think we're ceding ground by "distancing" ourselves from her comments at all. Every time they bring up something ridiculous like this we need to shine the light right back at them.

This is a non-issue i think.

33. We're trying to win an election
by convincing a small number of moderate, undecided voters.

It's not that what she said was so bad, but Kerry's response and the media attention takes him off message.

We must keep the focus on the President and his obvious failures. Anytime we give those assholes a chance to change the subject from the War , the lies, the corruption, the economy, health care, outsourcing, and the deficit, we lose the advantage.

We as a group, must be disciplined to make the public aware of the serious issues facing our country, and not fall into the trap of having this election be decided on insignificant bullshit.

the election.

I don't think what Whoopi said makes Dems look bad in the slightest. I don't think there was anything wrong with the time or place where she said it. I don't think there was anything wrong with the Dem. fundraiser last night, period.

I agree: I think Kerry should be focused on real issues, not on manufactured ones like this.

To even respond to this crap in any way other than laughing at them or shining the light back on them is to make it an issue when it's not.

edit: for spelling

5. ABC report below - She just used "bush" in a "bawdy manner"
LATE THURSDAY: POTTY-MOUTHED KERRY/EDWARDS/DNC FUNDRAISER at Radio City Music Hall:

From ABC News' David Chalian's pool report: Whoopi Goldberg wins the award for making the remarks that could make a candidate or two squirm a bit. Other than repeatedly referring to John Edwards as "kid," the comedian also played off of the President's surname in a bawdy manner. Goldberg talked of how much pleasure "bush" has provided in her life and that her "bush is smarter" than the President. She went on to say that it is time to return "bush" to its "rightful place and it's not in our government

What a bunch of whiny cry-babies these people are. Whoopi can say what she wants, the pubbies certainly do. When I hear her cussing out Pat Leahy on the floor of the Senate, then I'll tell her to shut up. Such hypocrites they are. (And speaking of hypocrites, does anyone remember the interview done with W when his Father was running for re-election? When the reporter asked him if he talked often to his Dad and W said yes. Then the reporter asked him what they talk about, and W replied, "Pussy." I don't remember them getting their panties in a bunch over that.)

11. I had thought so, but I liked her show.
OK. It was badly written and there were a lot of bumps, but there were genuinely entertaining aspects of it. Some of the political humor was good too! I thought that after the Ted Dansen experience she was burned out on comedy a bit. But now I'm not so sure.

Reminds me of when she said "Lorena Bobbit, meet Bob Dole" while hosting the Oscars in 1993 or 1994. Didn't even cause a ripple. How times have changed.
Waiting for them to express similar outrage at the vice-president telling a senator to go fuck himself on the Senate floor.

32. I hope it doesn't look like I am picking on you
But I just can't let the irony of this pass:

"Anybody who could wave to (blind singer) Stevie Wonder isn't fully there,"

Now who thought it necessaary to add "(blind singer)" into the transcript I can't see that Whoopie would have included that in the joke, as it assumes the listener (or reader in this case) is as dumb as Bush.

...while the party was raising cash, Goldberg was clearly raising some hackles by repeatedly referring to Kerry's boyish vice-presidential running-mate John Edwards as (a) "kid...(h)e is really youthful. He looks like he is about 18..."

Goldberg, a devout Democrat, did not spare Bush..."Anybody who could wave to (blind singer) Stevie Wonder isn't fully there," she said to howls from the audience. But she also produced a few embarrassed grimaces with an unsubtle anatomical double-entendre enjoining voters to "keep Bush where it belongs and not in the White House."

Is this what all the fuss is about? I was expecting to see something a lot more, well--Cheney-ish!

34. CBS did a story on this tonight--
said that the Repugs think that Kerry/Edwards need to apologize. I say we apologize right after Cheney does for dropping the f-bomb in the Senate! Go do a Google search on this-Rush Limp-balls apparently did a whole rant about it today and the infamous NewsMax is beating the war drum. We're going to hear a lot about this incident--they'll use it to beat us over the heads with and say that we don't "share the values" of your average American.

Personally I've always loved Whoopi's line about how the only bush she trusts is her own!

want the talk to be about god, guns, gays , and so-called 'murican values as much as possible. This distracts from dying soldiers, fiscal mismanagement, lost jobs, lower incomes, disappearing health care, crony capitalism and worldwide loss of respect.
