Was the American press also duped by the Bush Administration ? |
|
Or were they in collusion with them and merely cheerleaders to promote an illegal war that so far has cost about 900 lives and innumerable seriously wounded? Did they, like the Democrats, buy into the threat that was presented by Bush and Cheney? As we now know, from the intelligence report this morning, there was no valid intelligence to go to war. Houston, we have a problem.

It's no secret that the Bush regime sat down with news, television and even movie moguls to discuss how the war or terror would be marketed. And remember that legislation giving media monopolies even more ownership power? That was to be their reward.

5. They were in total collusion. For a different reason. |
|
They wanted the war because they wanted "excitement". At someone else's expense of course. It is as crass as that!

6. I think the American press just saw a long-running story... |
|
...that would bring in the advertising dollars. They just dressed the issue up a bit and ran it as much as they could.

8. If it is true that they colluded to illegally go to war......? |
|
Then we need a serious look at the media in this country. We cannot survive with out a free press. So what can we do?

9. Maybe coercion more than collusion or being duped? |

Rove's usual tactic is to threaten to "cut off access" to any media that don't follow his talking points. So, most outlets fell into line in order to "protect their access".
They're starting to see their own folly, even if too late.

10. NO ONE of ANY INTELLIGENCE was DUPED! |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 11:27 AM by beam_me_up
I'm nobody. I don't have any special access to information other than right here at DU. I KNEW THEY WERE LYING. Everyone with an iota of intelligence knew they were lying -- and the Democrats in Congress who say they were "duped" are themselves LYING. That is total BULL SHIT. How can they have access to LESS information than do I? If they don't keep informed then they shouldn't fucking be in office.
As for the media -- they have a SOCIAL REALITY to construct and sustain. FUCK THEM!!
Sorry, I'm REAL pissed off today.

11. Two things recently about the press: |
|
1) it sang Happy Birthday to Bush on the 6th
2) it laughed at Bush's jokes about the missing WMD's during some sort of press event this year.
I'd say it's more than merely collusion.

Sort of like how Big Tobacco isn't aware of the health effects of their product. And Ronald McDonald just wants to help us put food on our families.
The corporate media wake up every morning asking themselves "what can we, as caretakers of the national discourse, do today to help ensure a healthy democracy?" And the answer is always the same: "rimjobs for Bush."
