AAR to feature The Question W Revue!
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 02:22 PM by nostamj
Barring any emergency, we're scheduled to be on the Laura Flanders Show Saturday 7/17 in the 9-10 hour. We'll present at least 2 songs (recorded live at the opening performances) and discuss the project.

Obviously, this is very exciting for us. And I'm especially excited that those of you not in the NYC area will get a little 'taste' of the show.

If (by some miracle) you've missed earlier postings, here's the press release and poster:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July, 2004

THE QUESTION W REVUE ANNOUNCES CAST AND PERFORMANCE DATES
OPENING PERFORMANCE TO BENEFIT “MILITARY FAMILIES SPEAK OUT”

We have found the WMDs (Words of Mockery and Derision) and will unleash them in July!

THE QUESTION W REVUE, an evening of political cabaret, will begin performances at NYC’s legendary Duplex Cabaret Theatre on July 12th with a special benefit performance for Military Families Speak Out (www.mfso.org), a support organization for military personnel and their families.

THE QUESTION W REVUE will take satirical shots at the lies of the Bush administration and the failings of the ‘liberal’ media to expose them, the wrongs of the religious right and many other targets with a fast-paced set of original songs, political parodies, sketches and rants.

THE QUESTION W REVUE features an extraordinary ensemble of singing actors (JOAN CROWE, ROB LANGEDER, SUE MATSUKI, and MILES PHILLIPS) with extensive and acclaimed resumes in theater, cabaret, concerts and recordings. Musical direction and arrangements are by JOHN BOWEN. The production is directed by JAY ROGERS.

Original songs are by the Brooklyn-based writing team of BROOKS COWAN (Music) and JEFF MATSON (Lyrics). Original song parodies and sketches were written by Mr. Matson with additional special material from internet authors “The Plaid Adder” and “Bob Boudelang.”

Musical highlights of the production include a stirring opening number (“The Question W Song”); a tribute to our unique Attorney General (“John!”); a review of the Bush family tree (“The Spawn of Barbara”); a searing indictment of the Iraq war (“A Mother’s Lament”); and a frank assessment of the mood of post-9/11 America (“The Fear Goes On”) among many others.

The Duplex Cabaret Theatre is located at 61 Christopher Street (at 7th Avenue) in the heart of Greenwich Village. For reservations call 212-255-5438. There is a $20 cover charge and a two-drink minimum.

Performance schedule:
Opening Performance (benefit for Military Families Speak Out) Monday July12th @ 9:30
Tuesdays 7/13, 7/20 @ 7pm
Wednesday 7/21 @ 7pm
Tuesdays 8/17, 8/24 @ 9:30pm
Wednesdays 8/18, 8/25 @ 9:30pm

Join us for a “last laugh” at THE QUESTION W REVUE!

Note: For the sake of the country and the world, this production absolutely MUST become irrelevant by Election Day 2004. See it now and don’t forget to VOTE.

You've definitely hit the big time and I'm sure it will generate more interest. :toast:

What about PMing Wonk to have him save it as a sound clip so everyone has the opportunity to hear at their leisure? I'm sure he would do it.

10. we'll decide on which numbers
based on which come out best in the recording. because we have to do it LIVE, there may be glitches, dropped lines, whatever... but, with two full shows to pick from, we HOPE we'll have more than enough for the broadcast.

12. Cool! When does your show hit the road?
I believe you would find a very receptive audience on the west coast.

15. a 'tour' is not possible.
unless someone with BIG BUCKS steps in and we can re-cast.

my actors have lives, jobs, families here.

but, if a West Coast group was interested in producing it there... send them my way!

26. I have a venue and crew out here.....
.....would a 776 seat theater with full lighting and sound do?
Check out the Henry J. Mello Center, It's located in Watsonville Ca., 20 miles south of Santa Cruz. I occasionally do lighting, sound or stage management there. Tech time runs $90 an hour and performance time with crew (lighting operator, sound engineer, stage manager and house manager) is $150.

I'll bet we could sell it out at $25-$30 a ticket at least twice with proper advertising. You do the math. :)

27. 776??
we're doing it in a 75 seat cabaret space here!

i couldn't produce/direct from the east coast though... like I said in the previous post, if there's a group or someone interested in producing out there, I'd provide the script/music/arrangements

19. well, I don't do the 'tune' part
I do the words... (and only about half the show is original music so, you might hear parodies too...) don't know what's going to be used for the broadcast.... a lot depends on how the LIVE recording comes out!

29. Aghhh!
Never having listened to AAR...tell me that Laura Flanders is on 9-10pm...otherwise, I'm in a wonderful red cross cpr/first aid class all day long, keeping that credential requirement current.

I am eagerly awaiting all developments here on the left coast. And what great timing; we're about to have a convention, officially nominate a candidate to the general election, and come out Questioning W in full swing!
