Kerry Spokesperson Reaction to the Senate Intelligence Committee Report on the U.S. Intelligence Community's Prewar Intelligence Assessments on Iraq

Washington, DC - Kerry Deputy Press Secretary for National Security Mark Kitchens made the following statement today in response to the Senate Intelligence Committee report on the U.S. Intelligence Community's Prewar Intelligence Assessments on Iraq.

"Nothing in this report absolves the White House of its responsibility for mishandling of the country's intelligence. The fact is that when it comes to national security, the buck stops at the White House, not anywhere else. It's disturbing that the White House continues to lay blame for intelligence failures solely at the steps of the intelligence community, yet takes no responsibility for its own failings. They tell us that reforms need to be made in the intelligence community yet they have done little to make any real changes.

"The Bush administration's intelligence budget request for next year contains less than one third of the additional counter-terrorism funding that our intelligence agencies say they need to fight and win the war on terror. The Administration has gravely neglected the intelligence reforms vital to national security -- ignoring even the recommendations of the President's own internal review led by General Scowcroft.

"Americans deserve answers, not politics."

13. The gullibility factor.
So lets say Bush didn't set up the CIA bull shit. Then its a matter of who was the most gullible and Bush beats everyone hands down. He bought it all hook line and sinker. What a sucker. Sure Kerry went along for a while, but smelled a rat and refused to vote for the billions of dollars giveaway. Bush is still trying to convince the public it was worth it.

11. Typical weakminded B.S. He not only supports the WoT; he
wants to spend MORE on "intelligence" to "fight and win" it. :puke:

Note that this shameful statement explicitly accepts the notion that there is such a thing as a "war on terror." In fact, the very concept of a 'WoT' is a piece of fantasy bullsh*t invented by Bush, to justify a permanent ramp-up in US militarism. Yet Kerry embraces this concept wholeheartedly. His only complaint is that Bush isn't doing enough to "win" the pseudo-war!

Why can't Kerry say something honest, just for novelty's sake? For example, "The war on terrorism is a phony excuse that was concocted solely to 'justify' endless war, and the concomitant endless pouring of resources into militarism and destruction. I wholeheartedly denounce the utter bankruptcy of this approach to international relations, & its corrosive effect on our society."

Why can't Kerry say this? Because he's not remotely honest or courageous enough. So he goes along with the whole stupid farce, criticizing only limited aspects of the manner in which Bush is conducting it -- but not the thing itself. Kerry is saying, in effect, "I can carry out Bush's program, but I'll do it more effectively than Bush!"
