Fox News to fight back
CABLE WAR: FOX NEWS VOWS TOP FIGHT BACK AGAINST RIVALS WHO TOUT DOCUMENTARY

**Exclusive**

A new documentary claiming to show Republican bias at FOX NEWS will debut in New York City on Monday. But FOX NEWS executives are preparing to hit back hard -- if rivals self-servingly hype the film!

The DRUDGE REPORT has learned that FOX NEWS executives are lining up a parade of employees who formerly worked at CNN & MSNBC and have been downloading information on how editorial decisions are made at these networks, including the agenda for how stories are supposed to be covered.

A senior FOX NEWS executive tells DRUDGE: "We have enough ammunition to nail both MSNBC & CNN." Sources say FOX is prepared to go public with these accounts if necessary.

Elsewhere, the NY TIMES magazine on Sunday is planning a detailed expose on the FOX NEWS movie, and the question of the documentary's fair use of footage broadcast on FOX NEWS.

The doc makers have gone the Michael Moore route, sources tell DRUDGE, and are using material apparently grabbed from satellite feeds -- material that was not seen over FOX NEWS air!

One on those "intercepted" feeds has FOX reporter Carl Cameron chatting off-air with Bush during the last campaign, a source claims.

1. Bring it on.
I'd love to see them all go at it. They'll totally discredit each other.

6. You are right, discrediting all of them might mean
independent objective voices might be heard more clearly.

Does anyone doubt that if Fox had this kind of stuff they would have held it back until now?

5. IT's funny, they are always in defense mode
because they know they are guilty, if they weren't they'd say ...bring em on. It's also funny how they plan to nail msgop and cnn instead of trying to nail the people that made the movie. I wanted to see this movie before but now i can't wait until it comes out!

24. Kahuna, I love the picture and caption....
Just think, when George B. loses his job, he can be in competition with George H. (Hamilton) for the Ritz commercials... instead of saying "and I know toasty", GB can say "I know toast... I am some!" Hah! Wouldn't that be a scream?

If the dirt they have on CNN and MSNBC is that they engage in the same sort of right-wing spin, they would not come forward with it unless they were boxed in a corner like this. Even then they'd be hesitant to pull it out, because it will toll the death bells of liberal media myth.

Check out Brian Springer's "Spin"

Using the 1992 presidential election as his springboard, documentary filmmaker Brian Springer captures the behind-the-scenes maneuverings of politicians and newscasters in the early 1990s. Pat Robertson banters about "homos," Al Gore learns how to avoid abortion questions, George Bush talks to Larry King about halcyon -- all presuming they're off camera. Composed of 100% unauthorized satellite footage, Spin is a surreal expose of media-constructed reality.

Video, 1995, 60 min.

23. We are all biased
It is the attempt to give your point of view in a fair manner, and to disclose your bias.

I'm for John Kerry because he will appoint judges and arbitrators that are biased in my favor as a Union official. Bush, on the other hand, will appoint judges and such that are biased against me.

I know that Fox is biased to the right, and CNN is biased to the left (although not as extreme).

The value of the upcoming expose' is that the RW will have to admit that their news is also biased from Fox. Now, those folks watch only state run Fox thinking it's unbiased.

You see, it's like any argument, debate, or court trial. You hear and read points of view from all sides, and attempt to cull out the truth. This now becomes an informed opinion. In this light, I believe our side will prevail far more often than not.

Bring it on is correct.

25. I guess you're not familiar with D5E.....
.....from an old DU thread, D5E: Destruction, Degradation, Denial, Disruption, Deceit, and Exploitation

We may all be biased but we don't all use Army PSY-OPS to shape public opinion!

CONCEPT PAPER

Working Group on Preventive and Preemptive Military Intervention

William W. Keller and Gordon R. Mitchell1
Project Coordinators

<Snip>

U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, called for an FBI investigation into the forgery of documents cited by President Bush and Secretary Powell as proof of Iraq’s nuclear transactions with Niger. As Rockefeller explained in a letter to FBI Director Robert Mueller: “There is a possibility that the fabrication of these documents may be part of a larger deception campaign aimed at manipulating public opinion and foreign policy regarding Iraq.”26

The timeliness of Rockefeller’s proposed inquiry was underscored by the appearance of official documents that lay out official American deception plans: "In a document last autumn, the joint chiefs of staff stressed the need for strategic deception and influence operations as tools of war. The army, navy and air force have been directed to devise plans for information warfare."27

According to defense analyst William Arkin, the Bush strategy lays out goals for information warfare that pursue D5E: "destruction, degradation, denial, disruption, deceit, and exploitation." Arkin notes that the wide array of sites and ractices of information control brought into the range of this policy "blurs or even erases the boundaries between factual information and news, on the one hand, and public relations, propaganda and psychological warfare on the other."28

This fusion of military deception programs with media propaganda efforts enabled the Office of Strategic Influence to commission officers from the U.S. Army's Psychological Operations Command to work as interns in the news division of CNN.29

Eventually, the Bush Administration was burned by the political heat generated when the Office of Strategic Influence was leaked to the media. The ensuing firestorm of controversy prompted Secretary Rumsfeld to close the propaganda unit. Yet less than a year later, Rumsfeld stipulated that his action had only been symbolic, and that information warfare missions were still underway at other Pentagon offices: And then there was the Office of Strategic Influence. You may recall that.
And “oh my goodness gracious isn't that terrible, Henny Penny the sky is going to fall.” I went down that next day and said fine, if you want to savage this thing, fine, I'll give you the corpse. There's the name. You can have the name, but I'm gonna keep doing every single thing that needs to be done and I have.30

The political implications of blurring military strategic deception and public sphere propaganda are worth exploring, given Arkin's concerns about military deception that "while the policy ostensibly targets foreign enemies, its most likely victim will be the American electorate."31

Perhaps someone on Air America would like to open up a discussion of this topic. :)
