"Are Kerry and Edwards lovers?" asks Dennis Miller
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 08:41 PM by spotbird
Further speculation on the show was about Ecstasy abuse by the candidates and rehab.

90. Yeah I heard the same accusation on the very right-wing
WGNU AM 920 in St Louis. This radio station has all local hosts who basically pay for their own show by hustling advertisers. The RW host on the Friday morning 10AM show was talking about how often Kerry and Edwards touch one another. Like it's a crime for men to be affectionate with one another. Oy! What do these folks think about baseball and football players who grab one another all the time?

Can't attack the arguments so the pugs stick to the personal attacks. Since they know homophobia sells in America, especially in places like Missouri, they will use it.

I was scolded last night for being angry to the point of hitting "ignore". I'm going to be angry for a while. I "turned the other cheek" until I got a stiff neck and all it got me was bush. I've decided it's much too dangerous these days to turn either cheek.
And Dennis Miller can bite me.

In the second place, if you knew me, you'd know that there is no way I'd tell *anyone* what to feel or not feel. I know that's a great passtime here at DU... to tell people what emotions are allowed, but that's not my schtick.

I'm actually ENRAGED at the Dems today who spoke in support of the war, regardless of whether the "intel was good".

They don't speak for me anymore than * does.

I'm just an old-fashioned Dem who DOESN"T WANT WAR.

114. His smugness is undeserved ...

All he does is bring up obscure pieces of knowledge that he's picked up and tries to browbeat people because they don't know it.

Anybody has an expertise, they can start speiling off detailed knowledge of their field and impune Miller's intelligence because he didn't happen to know it.

Miller is an asshole, pure and simple. He's pulled off the whole "intelligent" routine for too long. I don't think he has any intelligence at all. In fact, I think he doth protest too much. I think he's a person of LOW intelligence who is overcompensating.

Limbaugh was saying they are hugging and kissing each other all the time and kept noting that they are the most pro-gay ticket ever so maybe they are trying to tell us something. There is another idiot who comes on before him who's name escapes me but he was even more vile about it. He said "I heard the Kerry ticket is branching out from ketchup, they are now packing fudge." Glen something his name is. Apparently this has become a talking point. These guys really hit below the belt.

they can't spread rumors of infidelity, drugs or vices---Edwards and Kerry are so squeaky clean, so THIS is all they can come up with. ... John handled it perfectly today by making a joke out of it. He referred to Leno's bit and then said " I think we make a cute couple"

I've heard that this is TOTALLY backfiring. Let's face it - most of the media are whores but they also have gay friends. And even middle america thinks this is just stupid, juvenile and trash talk. Gay baiting, especially two married men, is the lowest of the low. Even Drudge has removed it now ....

50. Being called homosexual should not be regarded as an insult.
It's a biological trait.

Kerry should shrug it of with something along the lines of "It has no more bearing than if they said was 5' 8", there's nothing wrong with being 5' 8" but I'm not 5' 8".

"NO person should ever feel deemed as an object of derision because of the shape their unique human form has taken.

"Being labled a homosexual, as a means political insult, should be as rejected as calling someone a N lover.

"We are better than that, America. You know we are."

Something like that.

Today they laughed at the "insult" which diminished those bringing it further.

Edwards, the devoted, faithful monogamous husband through thick and thin. Kerry the rabid heterosexual during his single years.

Who would have thought that these guys would find each other and immediately abandon the hetro lives they have lived for all these many years? And give it all up to out themselves so publicly?

61. Someday someone's going to bring out Miller's anti-religious rants and
absolutely DESTROY him.

It's on one of his one-hour comedy bits from the late 80's/early 90's, either "Black and White" or "Live in Washington," something like that. He goes on a huge rant about how people who believe in Jesus are just the stupidest people on Earth.

Someone oughta go on his show and ambush him with THAT one. Watch his .1 share go down to .001.

74. A younger Miller on the "Deep South":
"To be frank, I find those people anything but deep." On Alabama: "Talk about Darwin's waiting room." Or on West Virginia: "It makes Mayberry look like a think tank." I remember from his old White Album a rant about mispronouncing "nuclear" like our current President now does, along the lines of "you shouldn't be allowed to vote on this shit unless you can fucking pronounce it!".

66. A Right-Wing Hairy Palm Fantasy???
I think this is more than Junior High trash-talk. It seems to me as though both Rush & DM actually have a man-crush on the pretty-boy John Edwards and have projected thier fascination into a giant fantasy world wherein a political frienship between John Edwards and John Kerry is somehow something more, a sexual relationship if you will. Nothing to see here, just masturbation material for right wing closet cases. Kinda like when young boys pick on girls because that's the only way they can express their feelings. It really isn't a stretch to think that the same can happen with severely repressed repuglicans.

I seriously can't believe that this is the best they've got, it's really very sad and immature and it will probably backfire.

It shows how terrified the right is of the chemistry between these two. And when they use the joke themselves, they strip it of all it's vitrol. If they can laugh it off, anyone that hears them laughs it off too, and anyone who is seriously ranting about it (ha, I wasn't even thinking of Dennis Miller when I wrote that) just looks stupid.

Basically what I'm trying to say that when Kerry references the joke, he becomes in on it, and it becomes a "laughing with him" situation instead of a "laughing at him" one, so it's strength as a weapon is lost.

Yep. It's an RNC talking point. And it's the strategy. Throw around homoeroticism; then no one will pay attention to the Iraq fiasco, the economy, or anything else.

And of course it's silly. It sounds like the 9th graders I used to teach years ago. Looks like the RNC needs to treat their acne and grow a few inches.

103. What is obvious is that the Republicans are desperate beyond
belief to circulate this talking point. There was nothing at all unusual about the Kerry/Edwards appearances, this issue is totally contrived by some pathetic characters. To agree that there is anything at all to the charge speaks loudly to one's perspective.

Someone here said this attack is actually good news for the Democrats since it shows the * team's absence of anything real to run on, that is certainly true, IMO.

92. Unlike the NeoKons................................................
Kerry and Edwards ARE lovers! Yes Edwards and Kerry love democracy! They love liberty and freedom! They loved the way America was before 2000! Back when people around the world respected America and our word was our bond! The GOPers are so consumed by HATRED and Greed that they have made loving America an Evil thing too now!

The NeoKons love only money and more power and they don't understand patriotism and loving their country, like the people who framed the Constitution loved America! The NeoKons don't think that they should be ruled by our rule of law, like the other 99% of America is! The Kons think that they should not pay their fair share taxes like 'We the People' do, but they feel like they are entitled to reap 48% of our wealth and claim ALL the GLORY! The Cons don't know about Americans loving their country enough to die for it, because none of them ever came close to fighting or dying for the love of their country! The NeoKons had better, more important things to do when the chips were down!

I am still seething, because of the disrespect and contempt that "Wild Eyed" Dick Cheney displayed on the floor of the US Senate! I only wish, hope and pray that VP Cheney's remark on the Senate floor, will be made part of the record, so that history will show his perverted Fake brand of love, respect and compassion toward the representatives of the people and in one of the highest institutions of and for the people!

If Bush and Cheney LOVED America they wouldn't steal from it and weaken it in a time of war! If they LOVED America the NeoCons wouldn't give vast amounts of our treasury away to buy still another election and to void our right to vote again!

If loving America is wrong, I don't want to be right!

96. Miller and the rest of them
are doing this because their man Bush has absolutely nothing at all of substance to run his campaign on. They're trying to keep people distracted with non-issues to disrupt Kerry's campaign.

They're using a multi-front approach: if the slurs don't work, broadcast a terror alert. If the terror alert doesn't work, tell everyone how close they are to finding Osama. If that doesn't work, invent some new slurs and personal attacks, etc. etc.

I think we're in for a bizarre campaign season. Kerry's going to keep talking about the issues while Bush and all of his clowns and goons are going to try very hard distract from them.
