Report: CIA and admin purposely lied to public and senator
I just read the conclusions of the Senate Intelligence Report (at http://intelligence.senate.gov/conclusions.pdf ; warning - big PDF image file, so it takes time to load); and at the end are the conclusions on sharing information with the UN inspectors. Here they are:

The Intelligence Community had limited actionable intelligence on suspect Iraqi weapons of mass destruction sites.
The Central Intelligence Agency fulfilled the intent of the Administration's policy on the sharing of intelligence information.
Public pronouncements by administration officials that the Central Intelligence Agency had shared information on all high and moderate priority suspect sites with United Nations inspectors were factually incorrect.
The rationale used by the Central Intelligence Agency for deciding what information to share with the United Nations was inherently subjective, inconsistently applied, and not well documented.
The multiple Intelligence Community WMD site lists lack coherency.
The information the Central Intelligence Agency provided to Senator Levin in reply to his letters on the sharing of intelligence information with the United Nations was, in some cases, unresponsive, incomplete, and inconsistent.

In summary, they withheld information from the UN, lied to the public about this, lied to Senator Levin about this, and this all fulfilled Administration policy. OK, it's no surprise to us, but I hadn't seen anyone say the report actually said the government lied on purpose.

1. yeah and what about the one fifth of the report
that was redacted. And what about the stalling of the report on the administration's complicity being delayed until after the elections?

thanks for the summarization muriel!

2. Interview of the President by Al Arabiya Television
Some of these answers are just too rich!!

"JUNIOR: I think Sadr ought to be dealt with by the Iraqi citizens who are getting tired of him occupying the holiest of holy sites. And we are very respectful for the holy sites in Iraq, we understand their importance to the Iraqi citizens. Mr. Sadr is occupying those sites as if they're his, and I think the Iraqi citizens are getting tired of that."

3. And how does all this look to the rest of the world?
Remember them? This "report" is being discussed as if it is only an internal issue. The world is going to be even more cynical about this than we are. It could bring Blair down. It may blow the Middle East up. Europeans will look on us as a bunch of idiots. It will confirm the worst beliefs the Arabs have about us. We cannot now hope to get any help in Iraq. In fact, the only ones not surprised by this is probably the Asians who have known about us for a very long time.

4. Is this our July surprise? Pat Roberts, a Republican in the
clutches of this administration blames the CIA wholly and absolves the WH of any connivance and will not release any more until after the election. This stinks.

7. Thanks muriel
for combing through that. I'm sure there's a lot in the report that they were hoping to bury in sheer volume.
