This morning - CNN talking beauty products; Fox twisting and distorting

What has happened to our news services? This morning I couldn't get anything but fluff from CNN, and Fox was on making homosexual insinuations about Kerry & Edwards as well as distorting things said at the rock fundraiser Kerry had a few days ago.

Get this -- Fox completely leaves out the context about the statement that Hispanics voting republican are like roaches voting for Raid. Instead, they say that Hispanics were being called cockroaches and leave it at that.

Meanwhile, CNN is discussing summer beauty products.

Someone just shoot me now.

4. What is there besides AAR?

Are there any other radio stations streaming, or are you just talking web pages? which ones?

To be honest, some of the progressive ones don't always seem 100% reliable and I can't seem to totally cut myself of the mainstream even if I don't take it too seriously.

2. You got to admit they are improving all the time.

After all "Summer beauty products" could be about Kerry and Edwards, and for Fox to talk about roaches is a considerable step up from the usual dialog.

5. NBC this morning has been good- 90's nostalgia and former Cia Director
Admiral Stansfield Turner ripping the Administration over the CIA flap where he talked about how unusual it was for a VP to make 10 visits to the CIA while the Iraq intelligence was being gathered.
Plus they had some good Kerry/Edwards stuff-
Of course NBC has Campbell Brown as the host this morning!

8. Is the media working under fear?
I mean, do you suppose the media is working under fear of having their narcissistic pockets emptied out of silver or gold coins if they as much come close to becoming a real, integrity packed, truth telling media? Otherwise is it that Bush holds a magic wand and can cast a spell over them which prevents them from truth telling? Are the media as gullible in their own private lives? Are they just putting on an act to benefit their pockets and satiate their own thirst for glamor and power? ..

perhaps these lines from Matthew Arnold's (1822-1888) poem, "The Buried Life" applies to them:

I KNEW THE MASS OF MEN CONCEALED
THEIR THOUGHTS, FOR FEAR THAT IF REVEALED
THEY WOULD BY OTHER MEN BY MET
WITH BLANK INDIFFERENCE, OR WITH BLAME REPROVED;
I KNEW THEY LIVED AND MOVED
TRICKED IN DISGUISES, ALIEN TO THE REST
OF MEN, AND ALIEN TO THEMSELVES--AND YET
THE SAME HEART BEATS IN EVERY HUMAN BREAST!

B-) :hippie:

9. Welcome to DU!
I think you've pretty much nailed it with your take on the media. Sad, but true. Great poetry selection. Sent me to my very old paperback, "Immortal Poems of the English Language", where I found only two by Matthew Arnold, "Dover Beach" and "The Scholar-Gypsy", but not "The Buried Life", so glad you shared these very insightful verses.

I usta be a "hippie at heart". But in my day, we called them "beatniks". Fun memories!

11. Dear "classof56"--thank you for your words of welcome
Dear Tired Old Cynic: thank you for your words of welcome and of praise for the Matthew Arnold quote.
"beatniks", "bohemians", "hippies" they were and are all beautiful. They are and always were a breath of fresh air--these days, though, they are hard to find but they are still around!
Here is a link to Arnold's "The Buried Life" if you'd like to read the whole poem:

14. A beautiful poem!
I just printed it off, and was thinking about how back in the early "bohemian days", when poets read their works at a coffee house, we in the audience would snap our fingers rather than clap our hands. Another nice memory. I also just bookmarked Bartleby.com. As a newly-reconstituted writer, I am sure it will provide a wonderful research tool. Thanks! Keep up the good posts!

10. The media can't stop lying
Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 10:26 AM by DoYouEverWonder
because then they will be finished too.

For them to shine the light of truth on this misadministration, would also shine the light on the role that they all played in spreading the lies from the WH.

This whole thing is like that game Jenga, where you pull out different blocks. No one wants to pull out the last block, that will make the everything fall apart, because when it does finally fall apart, they know they are going down with it.
