Which celeb are you most proud to have on our side? Which most embarrasses
for me, I think I'm most proud that Gregory Peck was one of us, while I'm most embarrassed that Jerry Springer bats for our team.

You can this page to help find your picks.

On a side note, I'm most happy that Kathie Lee Gifford is NOT on our side. That just warms my heart!

1. Sam Waterston
He's been a Democrat for years, FOB, and has supported Kerry to the max ($2000). Why am I proud of this man? He was down at Ground Zero 11-12 to give support to the rescue workers (even asked for their autographs!), has given aid and comfort to the widows of the police and firefighters, and volunteers for so many good causes I can't start to name them. In 2001, he was given an honorary doctorate from his alma mater, Yale (he went on scholarship and earned his degree), he got a louder and longer round of applause than some idiot from Crawford TX got!

He's only made ONE donation in 10 years, and it's to Kerry for $2k.

If that doesn't tell you something...

37. He also made campaign speeches for Gore in 2000
in Pennsylvania. Sam isn't one who is out for a lot of publicity, and a lot of what he does isn't widely publicized. He's a deep thinker and a very kind person.

12. Sam Waterston's the man!
We were discussing him this past weekend. If they were to remake 'To Kill a Mockingbird' (I hope they never do) we'd cast Waterston as Atticus Finch. He's taken over where the dearly departed Gregory Peck left off.

He's been a faithful Democrat his entire life (he supported Dean in the primaries) and he's a class act, through and through. Love that man.

Not really a celebrity but the despised 'reality star' Omarosa from the show "The Apprentice" said on Larry King that she's a bigtime Democratic Party supporter and will be working on the campaign and I cringed.

14. That list isn't up-to-date.
I did a search on myself and it only lists one contribution from last September. I've probably made a dozen contributions to various candidates and organizations since then.

But it's pretty cool -- still gives you an idea of who gives to what. For example, I always thought Harrison Ford was a Republican but only saw Democratic candidates on his list, though the most recent is from 2000.

16. Actually, it's completely up to date.
The FEC releases a new database every Sunday night. The one on NEWSMEAT is from the 7/4/04 data dump.

What you may not know is that only donations of $200 or more are in the public record. In other words, the FEC does not generally release the individual records of donations under $200.

This is a link directly itno the FEC's government database. http://herndon1.sdrdc.com/fecimg/norindsea.html

You shouldn't be able to find your records in this search either. But if you do. please let me know.

17. Tom Hanks
I'm glad we have Hanks ($10,000 to the DNC in '00 alone!), because he's very well known for his devotion to the memory of the soldiers of WWII (not to mention he's also a wonderful actor). I wonder how many Republicans who were moved by "Band of Brothers" would be shocked to learn it was produced by one of the biggest "Hollywood libruls."

22. Thanks for this site, newsmeat! I was looking at it last night
and was fascinated...I'm not embarrassed by ANY Dems! We need all the help we can get and you never know where the best help is going to come from.

I'll tell ya one thing...I always felt sorry for kathie lee after she left Live with Regis and all these people made fun of her...but no more..I can stop feeling sorry for kathie lee. I think I know that Kelly Ripa is a Dem..at least I heard her say once when I was watching it back in the day that her father was one.

I wish I could do something about Michael Dell..the owner of my computer co.! I can only surmise that he's a greedy sob and doesn't give a shyte about our Country.

Admire them both and I'd like to see any Republican say they are not patriotic Americans! I also see that Arnold Schwarzenegger donates to his Kennedy relatives even though he is Republican. I looked him up because I was curious to see if he did.

29. Embarassed? Everyone's Welcome..
If I can deal with Hootie and The Blowfish Stumping for... Clark, was it? I can handle anything.

Funny, lots of the folks on that list from the link, I could kind of.. well, *yawn*. And some noted democrats and progressives aren't listed.

So, my list? Who's cool that I'm pretty certain is on our side?

  • Michael Motherf**kin' Stipe (and M. Mills, and P. Buck)

  • Bonnie Raitt

  • Willie Nelson

  • Ashley Judd... Who is Hot, to boot. She's Hot! Good Gawd, Y'all, She's Really, Really Hot!... Go ahead, Flame my ass.

  • Phil Lesh and assorted other members of what used to be The Grateful Dead.

  • Jack Black, baby.

  • Harold Ramis

  • Susan Sarandon & Tim Robbins, obviously.

  • Tommy Chong

  • Bruce Springsteen

  • David Crosby

  • Bill Murray

  • Janeane Garofolo

  • Al Franken

  • Jon Stewart

  • Larry David

  • David Cross

  • Hunter S. Thompson, who has donated to CO dems, apparently, and I know is no fan of Bushco.

  • Steve Buscemi

I can't believe more of us aren't upset about that. He simply makes millions from exploiting the down and out, the uneducated, the weak. Is that what a liberal is supposed to do?

I do think it's kinda funny that you call Whoopi a magnet for the repukes when Barbra is perhaps the ULTIMATE magnet, after Hillary of course.
