1. You're surprised?
This is who they are. They're a fucking baloney sandwich, and we're going to hold our noses and vote for them.

3. The only sandwiches are those who complain...
...but dont give ONE MINUTE of their time or energy towards strengthening their local DEM organization.

There is certainly some bologna, but it aint comming from Kerry/Edwards.

23. Thanks for your work- but I was not talking to you...
Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 09:31 PM by Dr Fate
I was talking to Hardhead, or anyone else who may fit the shoe.

9 times out of ten, the people who do the complaining dont do an ounce of work- and I stand by that.

People like you who do the work have every right to complain, people who dont, well they dont in my opinion.

You seem very upset- I have no real quarrel w/ you.

Peace

5. No, that was not an attack
I'd have to get excited before I attacked. That was a passing observation. I've already made my mind up to reign in my negative vibes until the election. But Kerry does not represent my interests.

As soon as Kerry is safely in office, I'm going to post a lengthy screed on the corporate interests Kerry is beholden to. Do yourself a favor in the meantime and pick up a copy of Charles Lewis' Buying of the President 2004.

I'm much more extreme than you can imagine when I get up a full head of steam. I drank the Kool-Aid with Clinton and Gore. I'll never drink it again.

2. Negative vibes.
Tell us or paraphrase what you want them to say.

I think Edwards "son of a mill worker" is a great thing to remind voters about.

And JFK and Clinton both WON their elections, BTW. Not exactly the worst campiagn roll models.

10. Are you "Southern? Do you know what "son of millworker means as opposed
to worked my way through Collge on Lyndon Johnson's aid for "College Grants" (even if one was a Vietnam Protestor, when one was working one's way through?)

Edward's "Son of a Millworker" and "now I'm a Millionaire" sounds like someone who won the "Lottery" because they defended a few "Class Action Suits" and made "Mega Bucks!"

Hey...I'm NC and gave big bucks to Edwards and saw him as "hope of the South" after Jesse Helms...but don't give me crap about not knowing what goes in in SOUTHERN POLITICS! :grr:

14. Not to Me
To me it seems like someone who worked hard to improve their life. In addition, it seems like he was an honest hard worker. Compare that to Bush who was born rich and spent his life just coasting along getting help from people who wanted to be close to his father. Edwards represents the common man while Bush is a rich kid who got everything.

I even talk "jus lyke Andee Griffith."

In fact, some folks in San Francisco think I'm a "redneck"- until they look past my accent & ball cap and here what I have to say.

"Son of a Mill Worker" and now a millionare, sounds like a guy who busted his ass and took advantage of his opportunities to me.

I never accused you of not knowing about S. politics- I think we just have an honest disagreement.

Peace to you.

7. I've never been so proud to be a Democrat
I'm originally from North Louisiana (conservative NRA REPUG areas). Now that I'm in New Orleans, I see Kerry support everywhere and I don't feel as though i'll get accosted for having a sticker on my car or a sign in my yard. Thank God.

As far as the people who can't afford to contribute. My husband and I have contributed to Kerry and DU. Pretty minimal amounts but honestly that is all we can afford . :( Maybe this month we'll be able to make one more Kerry contribution. We've both volunteered locally to help Kerry. We're attending a moveon phone party (where we contact people who aren't registered to vote and encourage them to do so). I'm also signed up for John Kerry for President and Democratic meet ups. :)

25. You have the right idea
As I've said numerous times to numerous people, our REAL work begins November 3, when we have to remind Kerry that he won BECAUSE OF US-- many who are holding their noses and voting for him because we know he's not evil like Dubya.

It's bad enough that our platform is dropping support of Kyoto, endorsing Sharon's I/P "solution", the continued unwanted occupation of Iraq, and not even mentioning single-payer universal healthcare as a goal.

13. And what's wrong with a JFK/Clinton redux?
I'm thinking they're the guys that won?? You know John Kerry better keep that F. out of his name though LOL.....

Hey Koko, long time no see and all that-- and I know you've been frustrated with Edwards for a long time and have heard the mill worker spiel at least 40 million times more than we have. And we've heard it a lot!

Unfortunately for those of us really into politics, we're getting a lot of the same stuff over and over now.
I imagine at this time they're still working on the 'introduce John Edwards' phase of the pres. campaign rather than the 'here's what will be different, let's get down to brass tacks' phase.

That's what I'm hoping.

16. AYYYYYYY! What's wrong is that there's NO MONEY LEFT! Nothing...
to do what they want to do! And we have a Repug controlled House and Senate! If that turns...on their coat tails...we STILL HAVE NO MONEY!

BUSH spent it on WAR and TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH! We have a Housing Bubble waiting to explode, intrest rates which will go through the roof the minute Dems step into office and our whole financial system is running in overdrive on manipulated Bush Regime false statistics.

THERE'S NO MONEY! Greenspan has printed to the MAXIMUM... there's nothing left! How can they give us what we need to move forward?

I'm just going to enjoy life until the end; due to peak oil, terror attack, no job, whatever. I'm tired of worrying.

No point in worrying.

Just live.

If it happens it happens.

Repukes will complain and complain, but we'll be able to do the kind of campaign that is needed.

We need to implement "Tax Fairness", where everybody pays fair taxes and the wealthy don't get off scot-free while the poor and lower income end up paying more.

Right now, the way the Repukes want to have things is that if you inherit money, you'll never have to pay taxes. If you live off the dividends, your maximum rate is very, very low and you don't pay Social Security and Medicare taxes. So the rest of the country has to pay for the government that you need to protect your wealth (deficit, Social Security/Medicare revenue). You might end up paying no more than 15% in Federal Income Tax. You shop carefully (and don't spend most of your income anyway) so you pay about 1% of your income in sales taxes.

Low income people who are working pay Social Security and Medicare taxes on all their income, about 9% (plus the nearly 8% that their employer pays instead of giving it to the worker as wages). Plus they pay sales tax, almost 10% here, on absolutely everything they buy including groceries. Oh, and they have pay all the silly fees too, like license plates, wheel tax, etc. So those who are lower income might pay as much as 19% plus fees just in Federal taxes and sales taxes. Then you can add in the silly fees. If you count the employer's part of Social Security and Medicare that they don't get in wages, that's another 8-9%. In that case they pay something like 27% just in Federal Social Security/Medicare taxes and state/local sales taxes, plus the silly fees.

And if there is a state and/or local income tax, they might pay even more.

That's NOT FAIR! Workers shouldn't pay nearly twice as much in income related taxes as the wealthy do.

28. True...this all needs to be changed. I hope they can do it but they need
to have a plan. The plan won't be popular so they won't talk about it.

But, there will have to be changes. I wish they could be honest about it, but understand no one gets elected saying they will raise taxes.

Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 09:24 PM by Classical_Liberal
I had to go on disability during the Clinton era. I attempted to gain computer skills in line with the pro-globalist thinking of Tom Friedman. Now that work is mostly being outsourced. It wasn't that kind to me sorry. I am not looking forward to a Clinton redux. It offered me no hope as a unskilled worker and no way to change that condition.

22. You are skilled. We all are. We are not the problem.
The repukes and corporations don't give a flying fickle fuck about their fellow American citizens. Only their own pocketbooks.

While they cut corners and cheat us to further their own profits (you haven't seen prices for ANYTHING outsourced drop, have you? I haven't) they will ultimately be bankrupting themselves in the process.

The end is coming. They just have a few hours longer. And, ultimately, they won't be able to cope just as we won't.

29. I'm not as gloomy as I sound Hyno! There's plenty of money if we Dems
close the "loopholes" get rid of the "offshore accounts" bring back Clinton's taxes on the wealthiest and promote a new energy saving program with money like we put into the Space Program. Declare a national energy emergency with a five year plan to put technology in place to revamp the way we use our fuel.

Tax credits for energy savings (like Carter had in place for years) and it would give a new "Spirit of Independence to America" that we could work towards.

Then Classical Liberal and others could put their computer skills to use and work for us here and not for a Corporation who outsources to India.
We need a Government Program to fund new jobs in the Energy Saving Industry. Like Roosevelt's WPA Program during the Depression.

It can be done, if they are Creative. I hope that they will be. Democrats are always more creative than Repugs. That's why they hate us. Our minds are open to innovation and change and creativity. Repugs need to have a leader they can mindlessly follow. If not a leader then a doctrine. They don't have the ability to be flexible.

I have hope, but we have to urge Kerry/Edwards to be innovative. Press for change and get ride of the "loopholes and breaks" to corporations that Reagan started to do away with and Poppy and on down. Revise Nafta...so much work, but it seemed Kucinich and Dean talked about it more than these guys. Maybe after they are elected the other voices will be heard.... I pray so.
