How out of touch is Bush with Americans? |
|
I know that Bush is using this gay marriage issue as a red herring but many people in America seem to have an issue with it. Most are against it. They may be more amenable to Civil Unions. But it is evenly divided on this amendment, though I could be wrong. It is bothersome to me to see that many people have still not overcome prejudice and bigotry. How out of touch is Bush with Americans and what are examples?

1. Most people could a rats ass about this issue IMO |
|
I think most people put that on a low Priority .
It may actually piss them off to have The Government Prioritize this above so many pressing security issues .

6. Most bigots are going to vote for Bush anyway |
|
I have talked to a lot of republicans who are annoyed by the fact that Bush keeps hammering on this issue. Many, even those who oppose same-sex marriage, hate the idea of a consitutional amendment banning it. I think he's missed the boat on this one. People who feel that way are going to vote for him - he doesn't have to actively seek their votes. And I think - or I hope anyway - he might be alienating some Republicans. Even Republicans have gay children/brothers/sisters/etc and might be troubled by Bush's focus on this.

7. Oh, bible thumpers are in a tizzy about it. |
|
Most other people don't much like the idea of gay marriage, but they realize the sky isn't going to fall if it does happen in a few states.
I've started rubbing right wing noses in how Bush's unconcern for the poor and his lack of any healthcare initiative that doesn't fatten corporations at the expense of the sick are unchristian to the max. It pisses them off and it also makes them think. It's one of the few things that seems to get through the cement. I'd strongly suggest this as a tactic to use when confronting screaming wingnuts. Just point it out and walk away.

3. because it affects so few people |
|
seriously, people don't get worked up over stuff that doesn't affect them.
If gays and lesbians were being denied the use of schools, drinking fountains, restrooms, and were not allowed to eat in restaurants then people like me would fight for their rights. But as far as gay marriage goes, it's not a high priority and I'm still not sure if I support it (I'm definitely not against it).
and the cause would have a better chance if you call it civil unions.

4. There Are Some Areas Of The Country That Support Him |
|
Other areas can't and won't survive as families and communities much longer.
If they're so far out of touch with reality, then maybe some of the communities need to move into urban areas to survive or get a computer and see the same things I do every day.
Listen, learn and grow was the lesson my Grandpa taught my Aunts and Uncles during WW II and the Korean War. He was also the one who bought the SW Reciever, became a Ham and kept up with the news outside the "approved" sources.

5. The shallow sockpuppet has... |

said that he doesn't undertand poor people and that most are poor because they are lazy. He is a phony Christian, Texan, trying to pull off that he is a regular American. The reason more people don't see through his bull is because many people are just plain stupid.

A lot don't really care. But his base does. This kind of hate talk is directed at and designed totally to appeal to his base.

11. FratBoy is only in touch with his "base", and that consists of... |

...the super-wealthy, the super-religious evangelicals, and bigoted whites throughout the country.
He couldn't care less about anyone else unless he has to publicly lie to sway them to the NeoCon point of view.
