You're not going to believe this one...
at least I was in shock. My husband just came and told me about it.

Said he was watching Showtime. In between movies they have the promos and talks with actors, directors, etc. about current movies. They were talking with Spiderman2 lead actors and the director.

{paraphrased here) They asked them, if Spiderman were real what would you like him to do? The lead actor said basically, fight for people who need help...the lead actress said, "blah, blah, blah" and then the director come on and says, "Vote for John Kerry"

I was in shock! It was so good to hear. :) :bounce:

4. People don't believe it here at DU, but this movie is basically a campaign
advertisement for the Democratic party.

8. The argument the first Spider-Man makes is that ...
...the university and learning is more important to society than the military industrial complex. The Green Goblin runs a weapons contractor and goes a little crazy. He uses his own weapons to destroy his enemy.

Spider-Man fights him once he realizes that his great powers means he has great responsibility to use them unselfishly, to make society better.

Green Goblin is a Republican. He uses his great powers to make himself more powerful and wealthy, the rest of the world be damned. Parker uses his great powers to make those around him happier and safer, even if it requires personal and financial sacrifice. Think MLK. Think John Edwards. Think Bill Clinton. Not only that, look at who Spider-man protects: the old, children, the poor, people who just work for living. Ie, the most vulnerable people in society who have nobody else to protect them.

Ok, move on to Spider-man 2. What's going on in this one? The same power-responsibility theme, of course. But there's a new enemy. He's come up with an energy source that could power the world. Hmm. Total control of energy? Sound familiar?

However, in SM2, the villain isn't duplicitous and insane as in SM. Dr Ock is actually as complicated as Spider-man. The message in SM2 is that (spoiler ahead) with reason you can talk people into doing the right thing. Notice that SM doesn't physically overpower Ock. He reasons with him. He gives him the argument. Ock is a smart person and is persuaded. Sound familiar? Who uses force as a first resort? That's right. Republicans. Who uses force as a last resort, and tries to win people with good arguments first? That's right. Liberals. And again, notice who likes SM the most and who he helps. Old people, Black people, asians, immigrants and people who work for a living.

In fact, notice in all the films, that Spiderman hasn't killed anyone. The burglar tripped out of the window, the GG killed himself, and Ock was (spoiler) persuaded to do the right thing.
