Driving back home I exchanged yells with two freetards.
I have two anti- Bush stickers in the window of my truck "Putting the Con in Conservative" and "Thanks for not Paying any Attention." Two guys in a smaller pick up truck (both looked mid 20s or younger), One guy rolls down the window and says "Bush Rocks". I rolled down and said "No. He sucks and looks like a monkey." They yelled some more could not make out what they said. Finally at a stop I said I hope they send you to Iraq you love him so much. Shocked look on his face- the best he could do was yell out "Baby Killer" Just made me feel bad that I didn't have time to challenge this absurd remark and their insipid worship of the great monkey. I would have even invited them to have a beer, I would give them thirty minutes and a beer- they just give me 15 minutes. Such is life in traffic.

33. You said it!! The only way to beat a bully is to hit back. HARD.
It should be tattooed on the inside of every eyelid of every Democratic Party spokesperson, sympathizer and surrogate:

NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER let the Bad Guy get the last word. And NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER say to one of them - "well, you have a point, but..."

The point is - THEY. HAVE. NO. POINT. And if they do have a point, IT IS THE WRONG ONE. NOTHING SHOULD EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER be conceded. EVER. They are wrong. Whatever it is, they're wrong. And every person on the Good Guy team should never hesitate to say so. REPEATEDLY.

Take NO prisoners. Cut NO slack. Ask yourselves - would they??????

103. you sound like a fundie.
with that "we are right, they are wrong" schtick.

it takes a bigger person to concede the few points they may get correct, then counter with a hundred that make their one point seem insignificant. they are not 100% wrong, maybe 95-99% wrong.

your attitude would be fine when face to face with some wingnut from faux news or rush, but is a bit harsh for the ignorant misled masses.

39. Hell of way to welcome folks.
At risk of getting flamed, being a newbie myself and all, I feel the need to speak out and defend JS301. Maybe because s/he and I have only been here long enough to have a similar post count or maybe because y'alls behavior reminds me of the level of discourse I have found on the rare occasions that I visit Free Republic to see what the enema is up to. While I have never had a problem getting in some fundie-con's face, traffic is NOT the place to do it. There are other people on the road besides you and we don't want to get caught in the middle of y'alls road rage. Just remember that when you start shit like this on the streets you are involving other people in your little scenario, a scenario that could very easily get out of hand. Pick your battles, but more importantly, pick your battle field.

how do you know there was no danger of road rage? Were these people that you already knew personally? I'm really not trying to pick a fight here, but there are some real nut jobs out there and I'd hate to see you get in a situation you didn't expect.

Like I said, I have no problem confronting these types, I just try to limit it to safe places. With witnesses. The more the better. They may be swayed too.

Keep up the good fight, but just be careful, OK?

strutting around in pink tutus for too long. I would rather us remain a little rude than get fitted for ballet slippers. Maybe some of us are getting carried away. But on the whole we have to make use of what we got, (which with NPR and PBS now in the right wing camp is not much of anything) The only reason I wanted to carry the discussion further was to perhaps try to get some sense in their skulls full of mush. I am NOT sorry for what I said to him about going to Iraq. The gay rights movement was going no where until ACT Up and Queer Nation. Every group needs their "panthers." We are no exception.

13. Enough Mr. Nice Guy
God why is the burden always on us? You know what? Fuck the moral high ground! It's about time we start calling these idiots for what they are, a bunch of brain dead Nazi worshiping morons! That is the moral high ground, because it's the truth. People don't respond to reasoned political arguments and tactical choices. They respond to passion. When we have your average auto mechanic saying, "What a dumb ass" about your typical Republican, then we've won. We're never going to do that by playing Ghandi all of the time.

sheer genius. you have to be able to find something to believe in so much that you're willing to stand up for it. and if you are willing to turn over and capitulate in the face of this administration's madness then you are part of the problem. i love how that statement above succinctly encapsulates the whole situation.

constitutes "openness and tolerance", then you are a better Repub than Democrat. Liars like Zell Miller need to be exposed for the dissimulators and Repub enablers they really are. Moderation has long gone the way of the ABM, Kyoto Treaty and Geneva Accords and Republicans have the dubious distinction of having poisoned the waters of political debate as well as having sold America down the river for other countries interests. Real Democrats know when to fight back, and moderation be damned. As for religion, keep it in your own pocket and don't pollute my "beautiful mind" with such fantasy.

Have you gone to the website yet???? I would assume by now you would have taken the time to find the answers.

You play your tune far too often, if you want answers to your questions, use the internet to find the answers. Don't use it to whine about how confused you are about the politicial choices or use it to pretend that you are an innocent lost politicial soul.

82. Well, if you are seriously torn politically, then I suggest you not post
for awhile and you just read the threads. If you do, you will see that this forum is filled with frustrated, angry and determined individuals that do not intend to allow our nation to be destroyed by the likes of the folks that are now in power.

What you need to know about Kerry is simple, he is not Bush.

Our nation and all that we value are in grave danger. The politicial and corporate powers that have distorted and weakened our nation for the sake of greed and power have put us all in peril. If you have children and if you are concerned for their future, you must not vote for Bush.

If you don't like either option, then just place your head between your knees and listen to the terra alerts grow loud and then soft and then loud. Let them keep messing with you - it is your choice.

The folks on this board intend to fight to take their nation back from the thieves that stole it in 2000 and that are destroying it daily.

Take the time to read their experiences, their ensights, the facts they post and maybe your questions will be answered. And seriously, go back to Kerry's site and read it. He does answer your questions.

96. Or maybe this forum is the place you are looking for after all.
As I suggested, give it time, "lurk" for awhile, read the different threads. There are some very educated, dedicated, concerned patriots posting here. Many have been struggling with the politicial inequities for years. They have played the "nice guy" game, only to see it back fire or used against them.

Personally, I have to agree with the majority of the posters here. It is time for members of the democratic party to stop bending over and taking it. For years the MO of the rethugs has been to do everything in their power to personally, socially and financially destroy any democrat that they feel is a threat. When dems take power, they have turned the other check. That has not gotten the party anywhere. No the dems are a bunch of scared, politically correct, ineffective office holders. They don't stand up for what they believe in for fear of losing their office. They don't do their jobs, they worry about the money for their next campaigns.

It is not pleasant to be called "unpatriotic" because you believe that the war is wrong or that every citizen in American deserves to be treated equally or that helping the less fortunate actually enriches and empowers the nation. Many have grown tired of being told that they are not patriotic because they hate the prez and his admin.

On this board you will find those that rant and rave because they are tired of being told that they do not love this nation and it is because of the love of this nation that they fell so strongly that it is headed in the wrong direction.

We are in a critical time -- things are worse than you could imagine. Civil rights are trampled, every nation in this world hate us and believe that we want world domination, so they are arming themselves against our threat, rather real or perceived (nuclear), corporations are running this country and the poverty and unemployment rates are at all time highs, the deficit is staggering.

Then one must not forget, we invaded and occupied a sovereign nation that did not attack us or threaten to attack us and we tortured and abused politicial prisoners and have killed and maimed thousands of innocents.

Please try a little empathy and take the time to read the various threads posted here. Some are just silly, some are antagonistic, and some are very information. Those threads that bother you, just ignore them, move on to another.

I suggest that you read the Plame Indictment Threads 1-5. There is some facsinating and scary stuff in those threads. Then after you read those threads, you might understand the sentiments shared by many of the DUer's.

I think most of the other posters have tried to be polite and give you the benefit of a doubt.. You come here lashing out at us. You started on this thread by saying to me "Way to take the high road.."
If you are the little miss manners you claim we should be maybe you should look at your own post. People who do have over 1000 post have seen a lot. They have seen people say "I am turned off by the Dems or liberals because..." They usually appear when things are not going good for the "other" side.

79. Excuse me, but
how do you know your family has been supporting Democrats for 200 years? Did everyone keep a diary or something?

And BTW, being democratic and supporting Democrats is an odd way of stating things. Why not just say you and your family are Democrats? Is that too difficult for you?

How is Kerry planning to do what he says he is going to do. I have not heard. What is do hear is sound bites slamming bu$h.

Anybody but bu$h is not good enough. Genghis Khan anyone? Didn't think so.

We need another Clinton to get this country back on course. someone who cares about us commoners. I don't hear anything like that from Kerry.

21. Check your history.
The vitriol, spin, hatred, spewing, attacks, etc. have been around in politics since the beginning of the birth of our country. The difference is that you 'feel' is moreso because you are living it.

But I agree with others that we're not going to take it anymore and we need (and should) fight back. As distasteful as it may seem to you just remember, the vitriol from the opposing view is stated with absolute hatred and distaste. It must be countered.

If you wince to the bully on the playground, everyone either joins forces with him or is afraid of him. But once you stand up to the bully on the playground he tends to back off and run away scared. This is the fight we are in and we need to call their bluff.

32. The high road?
Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 10:57 PM by Kipepeo
How is taking shit like that without saying anything the high road?

I've had people yell at me about my stickers as well. Smiling and yelling back "You must be confused" (when they yell "Sorry your man Saddam lost the war!") only makes them more angry (which makes me smile more, which makes them more angry) and it's not likely to win them over any more than yelling back at them.

The freeptards who are crazy/rude/hateful enough to yell shit at you out the window are not people that can be won over.

I say yell right back. Or take the laughing at them/smiling at them/flashing the peace sign approach. That seems to bother them more.

Funneeeeee!!! :bounce:

Yeah, we're sooooo vindictive. We're the party who says "go fuck yourself!" on the Senate floor.

We're the party who lies about waging an ill-conceived war, and scapegoats the CIA because we're being led by a snot-nosed punk-ass frat boy with cocaine lodged in his sinuses. Oh, sorry, was that too coarse and vindictive?

Tough shit.

We're the party who cuts taxes on the wealthiest and pretty much gives crumbs to the middle and lower classes, if we're not exporting their jobs overseas.

We're the party who says "burn up all the gas you want in your oversized penis-deficient machines! We've got plenty more over in Iraq!"

We're the party who taxes the lower and middle classes disproportionately, while spending untold billions on wasteful wars, corporate welfare, and outmoded Cold War defense systems in the name of strident jingoism and profit maximization.

Well, no, we aren't that party. You must have stumbled onto the wrong website.

Is this too coarse and vindictive? Good. I like confronting these motherfucking chimp-blowing asswipe shitholes as the poster described in his post above, in terms they can understand. I will kick their asses between here and hell to get back our country.

I will use coarse and vindictive language, as modeled by your VP, because goshdarnit, god bless America and all that happy horseshit.

No fucking welcome to DU from me.

Edited to add more profanity and to clarify my contempt for stupidity and trolling.

80. The Republicans have proven
that "moderate voters" prefer to vote for people who stand up for what they believe in.

I've been saying for many years now, that Clinton made a huge mistake when Jesse Helms publicly stated that he would need a bodyguard should he visit NC. Had I been president, I would have had Helms dragged out of the Senate in handcuffs, stood before my desk in the Oval Office, and given a choice: Resign, or be prosecuted. Helms' statement was an open threat against the president, and he should have been punished for it--immediately, and harshly.

The "neo"Cons would've thought twice after that.

The Democrats' practice of not fighting back was invented for them by the Republicans. Why should we do what they want?

42. And what you did that they were not expecting is to dish it right back at
'em. A bully can dish it out, but he can't take it. A bully survives on bluster and bullshit, and everybody else believing it and backing down. When you refuse, you're better than a quack dentist having removed all his teeth.

Because the wrong wing has had the monopoly to itself for so damned long (any liberal talk show hosts out there? Hello?) they're used to having the bully pulpit all to themselves. Who ever took 'em to task - or offered them more than token opposition (read: Alan Colmes). They are absolutely at a loss when somebody actually stands up to them and calls them on their bullshit. It's always a delightful tactic to suggest that those who love all that killing of them danged furners and the wonderful war should put their money where their mouths are and GO FIGHT IT. Even better to present them with enlistment papers. They are NOT accustomed to being called on their bullshit. When you do, you throw them offguard and off-balance, and you ruin their day. You might also motivate the rare one out of a hundred of them actually to stop and think. For a change.

It is BEYOND CRITICAL AND URGENT to respond, and respond forcefully when confronted or challenged. It's like locking your doors, keeping your house lit, and having a big bad barking dog - you're not an easy mark and a bad guy will think twice before troubling himself to try breaking in. For another example, I kept getting these nauseating pro-bush or anti-Clinton emails from people. At least... until I started fighting back. I wrote a long and detailed answer and sent it to the person who emailed me, AND to the person who sent it to him, AND to all the OTHER people that same person had sent it to. Needless to say, I have NEVER again received any such crap. Evidently, they know better. As they should. They wanna throw that shit at me? They're gonna get shit back. I do NOT let these people get the last word.

You HAVE to confront. Whatever style you choose for that confrontation is your decision. You can do it with humor. You can do it with sarcasm. You can do it somewhat gently. You can do it with a battering ram. But the point is - JUST DO IT.

The only thing that keeps people form embracing the tenets of liberlism and progressivism is abortion and it's "baby killer" stigma. Without abortion, Bush would only get 5% of the vote in November.

So true, That is why those folks are sticking with Bush. Good move by Kerry Edwards to take that phrase as their own.

94. That's Ridiculous.
Abortion is symbolic of a whole host of issues.. Look at the people who are vehemently anti-abortion, most of them are also anti-birth control, most of them have an agenda that goes far beyond simple abortion and stretches into every aspect of people's freedoms and individual lives. They want gays back in the closet, they want pictures of naked people to be criminalized, they want television couples to be shown sleeping in separate beds like Lucy and Ricki... But most of all, they want to put an end to all this pesky, sweaty, rythmic fornicating that has their burlap shorts in a little, uptight bunch. Because as someone who was at the big pro-choice march in April, I can tell you that the 200 or so anti-choice zealots out there looked like they hadn't gotten any, in any satisfactory sense, for a verrrry, verrrry long time. And that's what I think a good chunk of the so-called "anti-abortion" movement is really about.

101. I took my dog for a walk in the park yesterday...
And there was some sort of meeting in one of the park pavilions for a bunch of local Republican politicians (city council members, etc.). Every car had a W'04 sticker and a sticker or sign for a local Republican. The meeting was breaking up as I was walking by, and I saw a guy about my age loading up his car.

So I walked over and asked him which country we're invading next. He gave me a confused look, and I clarified that since he's a Bush supporter I thought he might have some insider information.

ACTUAL RESPONSE:

"We're not gonna invade anyone else until after the election."

What sick fucks these people are. I'm tired of being polite and quiet...these people deserve to be ridiculed loudly and publicly.
