I liked Edwards in the primary...but I loved Dean and Clark... Obviously since he was from Vermont, Dean didn't have a chance at being the VP...and I was sure that it was going to be Clark, becuase I though that the election would center on Iraq...
But, I was wrong...Edwards was the right pick...Edwards is the future of the party...Edwards is he energy of this ticket...I cant believe that I'm seeing the same John Kerry, he doesn't look like "Lurch" anymore, he looks young, energized, and his whole tone has changed, I mean, I actually perk up to listen to him...that Edwards energy is infectious!!
all day today, I have been thinking about NOW with Bill Moyer from yesterday...he had on a brilliant guy named Thomas Frank (talking about his book What's the Matter with Kansas? - I just ordered it from buzzflash last night-I'm gonna read it then pass it off to my conservative Christian mother, GET IT!!), explaining WHY the south and the heartland stopped voting for democrats:
There were two issues that people vote on: cultural and economic issues...
that people who should be voting for democrats stopped because they were convinced to vote for cultural causes (which the Republicans have done nothing about over the last 30 years, but they divide people by complaining about them)...voting only on abortion (which is my mother's issue), voting only on issues of homosexuality, etc...
they stopped voting for democrats because though democrats held up the cultural fights (abortion, etc.)...they stopped fighting for them economically...we stopped speaking of class, the different classes, class warfare, etc. because class became a dirty word...and then there was no reason for those people to distinguish between the two parties economically, so naturally, since they didn't agree with the democrats on cultural issues, and the republicans supported (wink wink) their cultural issues (and have done nothing about it)...they turned to the republican party...
The REASON why Edwards is the right pick is because we are talking about class again, Kerry is talking about class...its not a dirty word...and there are two americas...why are the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer...that is a question that needs to be asked and answered!!!!
So, I was wrong, congratulations to Kerry, Edwards was a brilliant choice for vice-president...we need to strive again for the America of FDR...and going by this week...we are on our way...John and John are the future...not the DLC, not Hillary...we are already there!!
