Am I a "bad liberal" because I have not yet seen Fahrenheit 9/11?
Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 11:40 PM by hiphopnation23
It's not because I don't want to, it just hasn't been possible for me with my schedule of late. My wife is about to give birth to our second child (a son) been going through some crazy stuff at work and a thousand other reasons that aren't really related to the real reason that we haven't yet seen it.

Mostly it's because, as a knee-jerk reaction, I automatically avoid anything in this society that has that level of hype surrounding it. Typically I wait for the hysteria to die down before I take part. I don't know why this is. It could be because I wish to levy a truly objective opinion on said piece of pop-culture or that I have a phobia of large crowds of people. I dunno!

So, does it say something about me as a self-described "liberal" that I have yet to see the most damning indictment of this mis-administration since it's institutionalization? All comments appreciated.

1. Bring some friends, talk it up.
keep the momentum going, it's more important than everyone seeing it at once.

Edited on Sun Jul-11-04 12:01 AM by countmyvote4real
The version that I saw didn't have the part about Saddam being a nice guy liked by his people.

As far as the "portrayal" of the troops, I didn't like it either, but it didn't appear to be staged. On the otherhand, he devoted a lot of screen time to their ultimate sacrifice.

Sometimes the truth hurts.

52. Poppycock
"I just think it cheapens the movie to call it a documentary when it's really a political film. When I hear the term documentary, I expect a balanced, factual account of an historical event"

Before F9/11 came out, I had never heard of this requirement that documentaries need to be balanced. As far as I can tell it's a meme created by the right-wing press for the purposes of discrediting this movie. Moreover, what exactly is the balancing viewpoint that Moore should have put in the film?

"Lisa Myers did an excellent piece on NBC discussing all the parts of the film that were inaccurate. Unfortunately, she's not waiting outside the door of every theatre in America to tell viewers that information."

Perhaps you can reiterate her points because quite frankly I've heard nothing but ad-hominem and strawman arguments from critics and commentators.

"If I were one of the soldiers whose images were taken out of context, I'd be planning a lawsuit."

And what context is the correct one? How do you know they were taken out of context?

18. You sound like someone with other priorities right now.
You probably have been quite aware of every point in Moore's film if you've been on board for awhile...you won't be sold because you are already. But I do believe this film will be a tipping point for the undecideds or thinking middleclass Republcans who must be having a crisis of faith. Those are the people who will be disturbed and even turned by the unvarnished truth that is laid directly in front of your eyes. For many, it must be a dimming, unenthusiastic support for this administration.

I'm sure that much of it would be "preaching to the choir" for me and my wife. But we both want badly to see it anyway. We'll have to settle for viewing it in the privacy of our own homes which is too bad because we would have loved to experienced it in the theatre. Oh well.

50. Moore offers insight in corporate interests in the government

And F911 clearly shows Moore does make a distinction between the evil in the government and the goodness of the people of the US.
Can you show even one example in F911 where Moore equates this criminal government with "America" as such?
Besides, no-one here is saying that Moore is god.

you can take the credit. :) Sounds like you have a lot on your hands... However, you will be missing an amazing experience if you don't go see the film in a theater. The audience is half the reason it is so great. It's inspiring to be among so many other people who are just as angry as you are about this administration.

But, no, it doesn't say anything about you as a "good" liberal.

I hope you can see it soon.

postal money order problems" I was preoccupied in trying to solve by having the money orders traced and quite possibly replaced.

No worries, for I already could believe Bush or * read "The Pet Goat" for 7 flipping (pardon my right wing American English) minutes with a group of second graders, or at least he had the SECOND GRADERS in that Florida elementary school read it to him for that time.

On edit: I want to see it still, for I wanted to know if Michael Moore even included the part about how Bush admitted that "he was only trying to fly out of harm's way" on September 11 2001, like the :scared:ycat "pollo mierda" or chicken crap that he was.
