Senate Intel Report Whitewashes Deceptions on Iraq
<snip>

The Senate report fails to answer critical questions about intelligence failures prior to the invasion of Iraq. The Committee's report fails to discuss the politicization of intelligence by the administration and its allies; the role of administration officials outside the CIA in producing phony intelligence; or the use of favored Iraqi exiles like Ahmed Chalabi. It fails to mention the Office of Special Plans in the Pentagon, Under Secretary of Defense Doug Feith's tightly controlled intelligence unit which had a direct pipeline to Vice President Cheney. Nor does it examine the administration's claims of links between al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein which have already been rebuked by the 9/11 commission.

At least our own think tank has balls enough to menton the O.S.P.

Fury over Pentagon cell that briefed White House on Iraq's 'imaginary' al-Qaeda links

A Senior Pentagon policy maker created an unofficial "Iraqi intelligence cell" in the summer of 2002 to __circumvent the CIA and secretly brief the White House on links between Saddam Hussein and al-Qa'eda, according to the Senate intelligence committee.
.
The allegations about Douglas Feith, the number three at the Department of Defence, are made in a supplementary __annexe of the committee's review of the intelligence leading to war in Iraq, released on Friday.
.
According to dramatic testimony contained in the annexe, Mr Feith's
cell __undermined the credibility of CIA judgments on Iraq's alleged al-Qa'eda links within the highest levels of the Bush administration.
.
The cell appears to have been set up by Mr Feith as an adjunct to the Office of Special Plans, a Pentagon intelligence-gathering operation established in the wake of 9/11 with the authority of Paul Wolfowitz.
.
Its focus quickly became the
al-Qa'eda-Saddam link.

4. Remember when Rummy tried to get the CIA to report to the Pentagon?....
That was at a point when the CIA was NOT producing the desired "intelligence" needed by the NeoCons to justify a war with Iraq. When that failed, the NeoCons created the OSP to slant the intelligence data just the way they wanted it slanted.
