Clinton-China: I have started seeing (here and C-Span) allegations
about Clinton "selling" technology to China in exchange for political contributions. WHAT IS ALL THIS ABOUT and why is it surfacing right now???? If this were true, the repugs would have hung him out to dry!

1. Hmmm - Where Neil or Marvin Bush involved in the deal?
Don't the Bush Boys have a "special" relationship with China?

2. Another phony scandal.
As best as I can figure, the RW accused Clinton of something that had been SOP under poppy...I believe it involved satellites. I got a RW nut book from the library on this once, but it was unreadable.

Why now? With * being on the hot-seat for everything from WMD lies to Medicare fraud to treason for outing a CIA agent, I guess the bjs are starting to seem pretty trivial.

3. Clinton Loosened Restrictions Of Technology
that has been overblown for years by the wingnuts that allowed an easier transfer of American technology into China that was primarily designed to help American corporations there bring in the materials they needed in building factories and operating there. That, at least was the concept...and any wingnut who bitches about that is flat out against free enterprise, no? Hell, this was to give us a market advantage.

Regarding military transfer, how soon these morons forget the vaunted "Cold War" and the "China Card"...where we wanted a strong China to create headaches for the USSR (same mindset that gave military assistance to bin Laden in Afghanistan)...a policy set in the 80's by the RAYGUN regime.

Wasn't it under Poppy Bush that our military started joint manuevers with the Chinese? Giving them technology? Hell, he invited their top scientists and military types into this country and gave them the run of Los Alamos and the military institutions. Whose zoomin' who here?

Given the wingnuts view of China, it's been at least 8 years since they got their hands on all this American technology, they should have thousands of MIRVs pointed at us by now. What's the deal? Or are they just stupid "gooks" like the arabs and other non-whites who just aren't as smart as our "leaders". Also, don't the Chinese own the Panama Canal by now?

What would these assholes do in a world where people actually could get along? Suicide?

4. And what, pray, do they say about Katrina Leung?
From TPM:

you'd think there'd be a lot more attention to the fact that a prominent Republican activist and fundraiser has been arrested on suspicion of being a double-agent for the People's Republic of China.

Katrina Leung was a prominent Southern California GOP operator and also a highly paid informant for the FBI. Over the years the Bureau paid her just less than $2 million for her information. For that entire time, however, she was actually a double-agent, providing all manner of highly classified information to the PRC.

There's more here than just a gotcha for Republican scribblers who tried to make the 1996-1997 campaign finance scandal into a sort of Red Scare manque -- though there's plenty of that, the one really clear spy turns out to have been not just a Republican, but something of a high-roller in the club.

Recommendation: Bookmark Josh's article, and next time you encounter any Clinton-China issue, email back with this. Hell of a lot more genuinely scandalous, and it's gotten virtually no coverage whatsoever.

5. That story is ancient
The whole Johnny Chung, campaign contribution/China thing . . . . Just google it & you will find more than you ever cared to read about this subject.

True? Untrue? I have no clue. All I know is I remember hearing a whole lot about it in the news years ago when they were doing a congressional investigation. Here's a link to Cox Report:

http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/resources/1999/cox.report/overview/pg1.html

I think repubs did try to 'hang him out to dry' on the issue, obviously they were unable to. I think they proved that the campaign received $$ from the Chinese government, but were unable to prove that the President, etc . . . knew anything about it.

I haven't though about this in years, I'm gonna have to reacquaint myself with the tale.

As you research you will see that the scariest part of the whole story is not the political part- It's the part about how much weapons technology the Chinese were able to steal from us.

7. What I am wondering is: WHY ARE THEY BRINGING IT OUT NOW?
What are they trying to justify in their own behavior? Anytime Clinton is carted out, something extra FISHY is going on in their own pond.
