Debunking the Laci Paterson Law |
|
"The Bush ad criticizes Kerry for missing two-thirds of the Senate votes while on the campaign trail this year, but going to Washington to vote against the unborn victims bill, also known as Laci and Conner's law."
Is this the one that defined fetuses as people?

1. Yes, and I had some right-wing person tell me about this law |

He brought it up twice over the course of the evening as why John Kerry was bad. It was kind of annoying actually. You are getting really selective if your main reason for not liking Kerry is the Laci Peterson bill.

....it states if one perpetrates a crime against a preganant woman, the perpetrator can be charged with perpetrating a crime against the fetus as well. It is feared by many pro choice advocates that this is an attempt to grant the fetus personhood and a first step to ending abortion rights.

3. And I would say they are entirely correct to fear that. |

That's exactly the intent of the RW in championing this bill. They lucked out and got a 'famous' case to base this on, thus getting more attention and more chance of the bill's passage. Wonder if the media's strong focus on that case was complicit in the strategy?
