Yet another first-time "F9/11" experience - this afternoon in Cincinnati
Edited on Sun Jul-11-04 07:42 PM by Paragon
I swore I wasn't gonna write one of these things -- by now F9/11 has been discussed and picked apart to death. Besides, I was growing up in Michigan when the Flint premiere of Roger & Me was a big deal, so I've been following Michael Moore since the beginning. But now I know why everyone who's seen it has been compelled to write:

While the film is compelling and Moore's best, it's the experience that is the real rush -- a theatre packed full of people FINALLY waking up to what is going on...it's liberating. To paraphrase Richard Clarke on his resignation, it's like that great feeling you get when you finally stop banging your head against a wall.

Even if every person in that theater are part of "the choir", there are still audible gasps at pieces of information and video that most people here at DU have known or seen months ago. And as gratifying as that is, there was enough new content (or old content presented in an entertaining way) to keep me on the edge of my seat -- a phrase I'm almost embarassed about using to describe a documentary.

My brother saw it with me - and while he's a Democrat, he's not the wonk that I am...and HE wanted to discuss it more afterward than I did. My father (a guy in his 70's who marched against the war) is coming to visit me for my birthday this week - and I'd like nothing better than to see F9/11 again with him that day.

So I get the hype, finally. Congrats, Michael - you outdid yourself this time...and thanks.

2. I surprised myself at the movie
When the movie shows the 'shock and awe' and cuts away to Rumsfield talking about our 'humane bombing', I let out with a big "Fuck you Rumsfield!"

Kind of surprised myself. I normally don't verbally express myself at movies like that. I so need to go see that movie again.

4. I'd like to see you do that at "Spider-Man 2"...
...just to see if you get a similar reaction from the audience. :D

8. I'm surprised you two weren't hauled off by the ushers.
My pet peeve is people who talk during movies -- so all my "fuck you"s were screaming inside my head.

I did overhear a teenage girl say walking out of the theater, "Every time I saw (Bush's) stupid face, I wanted to reach through the screen and strangle him." :D

9. It's not the city, it's the suburbs.
That "fear factor" has pretty much chased everyone out of downtown since the Riots, off to the burbs where they vote Republican again and again.

But as Michigan & Ohio go, so goes the nation -- and I'm confident Kerry will take them both this time.

7. I went to see F9/11 for the second time yesterday with a friend who
had not seen it and did't know all the info contained in the documentary. Two men seated behind us were gasping and mumbling, "Oh my god...Geez" throughout the film.

10. Paragon, I Think You're Right About The Whole Experience
glad I saw it in the movies and not alone in front of a dvd player.

It's the whole gestalt of the thing.

But then, I lament the days (ended a few decades before my birth) when people all got together and watched movies (and before that vaudeville).

13. Saw it today for the THIRD TIME in REPUBLICAN HELL
And, a week and a half after the opening, the theater was still packed! In republican-hell southcentral pennsylvania. Where Bush just campaigned on Friday.

And the film is still generating gasps and an ovation.

Screw George Bush and the Posse he rode in on!
