2. And he'll explain that Dubya is no Reagan |
|
And you guys were all so pissed off by the publicity given to the Reagan funeral.
Well, now that the funeral has reminded everyone of who Reagan was, Ron Jr. is going to show everyone that Dubya is no Ronald Reagan! (Or even traditional conservative.)
Whatever else President Reagan did -- and the record is very mixed -- he helped defeat our long-time foe, the USSR; Dubya, on the other hand, has helped our newest foe, Osama, to set up a giant recruiting booth in Iraq. Reagan ended thirty years of cold war; Dubya has incited anti-American hatred that will last for generations.

4. Reagan and the Cold War |
|
"Reagan ended thirty years of cold war"
The Cold War did not begin in 1961, it started in 1945, as soon as WWII was over, with the Soviet occupation of Eastern Europe and some former Japanese territories.
Reagan was out of office when the Berlin Wall came crashing down, and when the Soviet Union broke up. Did not the Germans themselves play a role in reuniting East and West? Did not the Romanians play the biggest role in deposing Ceaucescu? Did not Lech Walensa stand up to the Communists in Poland, like Alexander Dupcek had done during the Prague Spring in Czechoslovakia? And what about the efforts of all of Reagan's predecessors, from Harry Truman who, with our allies, successfully broke the Soviet blockade of Berlin, to Jimmy Carter, whose boycott of the Moscow Olympics deprived the Soviets of millions of dollars that could have been devoted to the war machine? And don't forget the efforts of Mikhail Gorbachev, who realized that the Soviet economy was so messed up that the system could not possibly continue, regardless of who the American president was.
Giving Reagan credit for the end of the Cold War is like crediting the game-winning hit to a shortstop who gets a bloop single to drive in the final run of a 10-0 blowout.

Someone on this forum put it in my head about a week ago that there was a HUGE surprise coming, by way of a normally Republican stalwart endorsing Kerry/Edwards, before there even WAS a Kerry/Edwards.
My belief, (and this is what I've been telling friends,) is that Nancy Reagan is going to endorse Kerry/Edwards.
Am I nuts?
Let's hope not.

Thanks, and God Bless!
