F911 psuedo review - but good points on why we should be ashamed
yes this is mrcranky and his reviews are for humor only but he makes a good point or two.

"There's also another particularly interesting point made in Moore's film about the Democrats. Regardless of the outcome, the situation in Florida during our last presidential election was a mockery of our constitution. It's simply a fact that the state was won by Bush due to Republican efforts that prevented voters unlikely to cast votes in his direction from voting. Most of those voters were black. Moore shows us the scene, Al Gore presiding over a joint session of Congress, as black Congressperson after black Congressperson try to oppose the validation of the election. Each gives a speech, but failing to have their objection signed by only 1 Senator, they are forced to leave the podium. Sorry, but the thought that went through my mind was this: Where was John Kerry? Frankly, where was any Democrat during this whole thing?"

------

"Having said all this, it's absolutely disgusting that George W. Bush supporters won't address the points made in Michael Moore's film because they aren't simply fairy tales. They just do what Dick Cheney did in the Senate the other day and scream "go fuck yourself" a lot. Frankly, the Democrats do pretty much the same thing. There's no longer political debate in this country, there's just name-calling. There's no longer investigative journalism in this country, just sound-bites, sensationalism, and headlines."

1. That part of the 'documentary' with Gore was really disturbing.

I can understand why it is procedural and legislated and why Gore as VP had to stay with the law and I understand that the Dems made a deal to get something out of the Senators restraint, but as much as I like Gore, I feel the tone of it all could have been a million times more conciliatory and sympathetic to the Black Caucus (plus Patsy Mink and any other non-Black who spoke up). I resent that he made a joke that those right wing thieves chuckled at. I don't blame Moore for including that part. It was Gore's darkest hour for the tone and tenor he used.

At times I feel that the Black Caucus is the most patriotic group in Washington. I aplaud every constituent who signed their petitions. I would like to have a copy of their statements and a list of names of those brave Legislators. It was another shameful episode in bigotry and separation for the way they were laughed at.

2. Gore didn't have any choice
It had to have been extremely hard for him to cut off each and every one of those Black Caucus members who stood in the defense of his legitimate election, but he had to go with what the law says. The fault for this one rests entirely on the Senate, and to this day I find it hard to believe not one of them - not Kerry, not Feingold, not even Saint Wellstone himself- would take a stand for what was right.

Would it have reversed a BCE dominated Supreme Court? Probably not. But at least this party could have stood on principle, instead of beginning a pattern of ass kissing which continues to this day :grr:

3. I agree with you.
I was sobbing through that whole segment.
I cannot imagine how hard that had to be for Al Gore, but he is an honorable man & followed the law even if bush & his minions would not.

4. I believe he is honorable, but you can't deny that in this event he
clearly placed himself on the side of the 'established senators ' especially with the right through tone and tenor and making somewhat of a joke that the right wing loved. I won't describe how he should ahve handled it, but start with sober and solemn and 'I know how you feel'.

5. I'd love to see the footage of Nixon certifying the 1960 election
and watching him deal with constipation up there.

Of course, Nixon lost by a WIDE electoral margin . . .
