Please, see "Control Room" if it's in your town!! |
|
It's absolutely fascinating, thought-provoking and more than worth the price of admission.
The whole thing is fantastic, particularly behind-the-scenes segments when Al-Jazeera's reporters are either hanging out at the press center, or (particularly) when the managing editor mangles a producer for putting "some maniac" from New York on the air for an interview.
"If it's in your town" is the problem - I can't imagine it coming out on more than 100 screens nationwide. ;-(

...was going to post this too. thanks! i saw it yesterday in columbus ohio. Actually, for my money, a way better movie than F9-11. Much more subtle and yet extremely powerful. A devastating combination: nailing the RW media, nailing the * lie machine, and bringing well-deserved respect to both Muslims and Al-Jazeera.
Saw it at the Drexel, a small art-house indie theatre with three screens, showing F9-11, Control Room, and (ahem) America's Heart and Soul.
I am promoting it as "the next movie to see after 9-11". Then: The Corporation, Outfoxed, and The Hunting of the pResident.

5. That, and Jazeera, Abu Dhabi and BBC all getting hit the same day |
|
All getting hit by air-launched ordnance, but it's just a coincidence? That's what made the comment re. "safest place to be is embedded with the Coalition forces blah blah blah" really burn my ass.

I walked out of the theatre thinking that just when I couldn't be more ashamed of what's become of my country, I have to go and see shit like that.

It gives a great inside look at Al-Jazeera's journalists before and after the invasion of Iraq! It was far more disturbing than F9-11, I had a hard time watching many of the scenes. It's heartbreaking to see the pain and destruction as a result of this insane war.
I was so angry with Lt. Josh Rushing, the press secretary from CentCom in the beginning but at the end, you could see he was disturbed by the reality of war. He was forbidden to talk about the documentary and is resigning after 14 years in the military.
