SENATOR Mike Ditka?

Just heard on CNN that Repubs are asking Ditka to run for the seat Jack Ryan (take your wife to sex clubs and join the show) was running for.

Why are the GOP so obsessed with athletes and movie stars?

PLEASE run, Mike

he's Such a moran, and has SO many skeletons in closet that it would be vastly entertaining

his ego is unrestrained, so it's very possible that he'll do it

3. Name recognition and popularity.

They don't have much time. They have to have somebody who everybody knows.

How papular is Mike in that state? I have to believe he's pretty popular since I know him.

8. It seems as though they would rather trot out the person with the...
best name recognition rather than someone who may be infinately qualified for holding office. Let's take a look: Arnold Schwarzegger, Tom Osborne, Steve Largent, Judge Mills Lane (another Oklahoma congressman who used to play for the sooners-sorry can't remember his name), Fred Grandy and many others. The republican party tried to get semi-famous legendary U of Iowa wrestling coach Dan Gable to run a few years ago. They're always trying to get Charles Barkley to run. Most of the time it works. Just ask the poor guy who ran against Tom Osborne in Nebraska.

12. He would indeed be a fitting Imperial Senator
The Busheviks love these kinds of people because:

1) They are easily malleable, and no matter how "tough" somobody is, they'll gladly defer when they are inexperienced and "dance with who brung 'em".

2) They have discoevered ome of the salient Marketing Truths of our time, and that is: The Imperial Subjects of Amerika are EASY to lie to, distract, defraud and that even at THIS LATE DATE, the Celebrity Bootlciking that in many ways was a template for Imperial Bootlicking will carry Ditka to his new position in the Imperial Senate.

Sadly, if Ditka runs, I think Ditka wins.

"A Republic, if you can keep it."
--Benjamin Franklin, to a citizen who asked him what form of government the Constitutional Convention gave us in 1789

And no, Ben, we couldn't keep it.

I don't want to see him disappear.

16. Obama won't be disappeared, I think
But then, I didn't think they had the hubris to assassinate Wellstone almost 2 years to the day and in the same way they popped Carnahan.

These people have at almost every turn EXCEEDED my worst expectations for what they were capable of.

Yes, Obama might be Wellstoned.

I've seen Dikka (preferred spelling) for decades, and as he gets older, he gets crazier, more ego-driven, more given to tourette-like outbursts, which will guarantee, along with a certain Barack victory, a HUGELY embarrassing, schadenfreude-filled campaign

alas, an Illinois thread here says he's already turned it down

no links, though, so it could be wrong

sure am hoping hard, though

Run, Mike, run!

15. Well, I would rather you were right about this one
:hi:

It's just the Dem response to the Whoopi incident (cowering, defensive, bullied, apologietic) while Cheney can tell a Senator to Go Fuck Yourself, with no problems, and a few other things has me down.

And to look at that grinning (w)ussy who has orchestrated this disaster of caution and cowardice, Al From, who is obviously high in the Kerry campaign, whispering "Don't rock the boat. Don't make waves. Ignore the Libs, they have to vote for us anyway." is making me puking sick, also.

It seems as if the 1933 German Social Democrats are reincarnated today.

So I am down and especially cyncial today.

But you are probably right. I hope so, anyway.
