It's not ABOUT gay marriage.
Maybe this point has been made here before, but here I go anyway.

The repugs (and I don't use that term lightly, especially with this subject) know they don't have the votes to even get this out of the senate.

Amendment to the constitution? It's not gonna happen.

It's simply to get the votes of (most, I hope) the Democratic members of the senate to go on record as voting against it, have it down in black and white in the Congressional Record, so they can (supposedly) use this vote AGAINST them in political campaign ads back in their home states.

"Senator Blank voted AGAINST the age old institution of marriage."

Dirty, ugly, gutter politics?
Yes.
But you already knew that.

1. They probably already have the ads made, ready to run
They are already doing to Kerry saying he failed to vote on the Laci Peterson bill that "protects women from violence".

2. Democrats should run ads listing who voted to desecrate the constitution
But our side is too wimpy to hit the Republicans as hard as they hit us.

3. Why do they need to fire up their base?
That is what I am asking myself. The folks that are for the amendment are already for bushco. The only thing I can think of is that they are getting nervous that their base won't turn out.

This issue isn't going to play as well with the five or six people left in the country who haven't made up their minds yet.

The bad ship bushco is taking on water fast.
