Kerry/Edwards rallies: 1st Amendment Zones? |
|
Anyone know---or been to a John Kerry (or, now, Kerry/Edwards) rally? Do they have First Amendment Zones or is the principle of free speech still in operation? I'm curious as I o'heard a "freeperish" colleague telling someone that "all the candidates have and enforce 'protest zones'" now. I had never heard this so the question above and , second, if they do not have them is protest a problem at their rallies.

Who's gonna show off their supreme ignorance by challenging Kerry and Edwards? Only people paid by Karl....
1st Amendment Zones are used by this administration because they cannot have their make-believe candidate's speech punctured with the reality of normal citizens totally outraged with this criminal administration.

4. I believe Bush is the only "1st Amendment Zone" Prez ever |
|
The RNC protests should be interesting. I will refuse to protest anywhere but in his face. I'm retired so time is not a problem if jail time is in my future.

17. I will live vicariously through your protests, then. |
|
I am employed and I am a mom so I can't go to jail, much as I would love to protest in W's face. If you serve time, I'll send you letters from the outside. :)

7. I guarantee you the few people who support the bushgang |
|
(among the real population--not the phony "polls") would be way too chickenshit to try to disrupt. They'd be outnumbered about 100 to 1.

6. Wow, I hate to dissapoint you guys (I really do), but these "protest zones |
|
were used by Clinton too and I believe that they are also in effect around the DNC. As much as I HATE the puke Bush doing it, it has become commonplace in many of the larger venues. Sorry I don't have proof or links right now, but I am very confident in my information.

8. last rally for me was Clinton in 92 |
|
and the Replicant protestors were at large in the crowd---although they were of the shirt-slogan/sign-waver variety with an occaisional chant the pro-Clinton crowd shouted down.
I just wondered if this was now standard to remove every trace of dissent in public or just a Bush* twist

13. First Amendment Zones |
|
were first used in the Clinton Administration as a way of controlling the protest and violence at abortion clinics.
That is how I remember it. If I'm wrong, someone please let me know.
The resident evil is the first president to use them to control dissent. Even when 1st amendment zones were being used to protect the people who worked and sought help at abortion clinics, the protesters were not taken out of the sight of the clinic.
Personally, I think the idea has always sucked.

14. Oh, yes they are!! There was some contreversy here about permits for |
|
these people to protest in their "zones" and the red tape involved in it. The DNC backed down to keep it from being an issue.
Pro life and NRA to name two that I know of. They will be several blocks from the action in the designated "protest zones". Dems must be doing a good job de-emphasizing this if people don't know about this.

12. Only 6 showed up an Raleigh. If not for their special little area, they... |
|
...would have been lost in the crowd.
It actually helped the media find them. They got coverage they never would have gotten otherwise.

15. went to rally in Dayton.... |
|
there where protesters there, right outside the fence not more than 100 to 150 yards away from Kerry and Edwards. One was actually inside the fence with Bush signs taped to his shirt. It just depended on whether or not you had a ticket(free). The free speech zone was a topic of conversation as we waited for the speakers to come out.You can bet we wouldn't be able to get anywhere near that close to shrub.

Probably the zones are setup by the Secret Service. Protecting the pres and all that....
The only good I can see from this is that THEY get a taste of what it's like to be herded for the next 4, 8, 12, 16, 20,....or so years. <grin>
But hey, we liberals won't let these zones continue for too long. The right of free speech and all that.
