1. Genuine. That's what makes it so tragic...

4. I would say genuinely scared
Scared of social change, scared of foreigners of any type, scared of any challenge to their bigotries, scared that the little woman might leave them.

6. ...but I don't think they realize they're scared. They're just
"Doing what's right".

13. Real Conservatives are not evil people
Although I do not believe in the Conservative philosophy, its a mistake to confuse them with Bush and his goons. These are not real Conservatives. In fact, most of the real ones are very upset with Bush over things like State rights, spending and privacy issues.

2. Depends. The rank & file I would say genuinely naive.
The leadership? Genuinely evil.

9. This is what I think...
The average conservative politician is an amoral soulless evil SOB, while the average rank & file I would say perhaps naive and shortsighted, but not particularly evil

5. Real Conservatives are genuine
but the current neocon leadership in the Republican party is pure evil. It's a shame that these people have been so misled to believe in people like George W. Bush and Dick Cheney

7. They truly believe what they are doing is right
They are very naive, for the most part.

8. conservatives, or neocons?
Under Reagan, the Repukes unified the conservatives in one party. Under the bushgang, the neocons have taken over the party. The neocons are not conservatives.

True, old-school conservatives are misguided, blinkered people, honestly committed to bad policies.

Neoconservatives are evil.

10. Some are, some aren't.
I think that Bush is genuinely evil. He cares more about corporate interest than anything or anybody. He tries to appeal to the religious right and it works, but it's not genuine. I've lived around southern fundies all of my life, and they genuinely believe that what they're doing is right. They believe that they are saving people's souls by demanding the detraction of womens rights and the progression of gay rights. This is a very sad thing and says a lot about how far behind our country is in terms of social issues in comparison to European nations and countries like Canada.

11. Human nature
We all believe we are doing the right thing. Conservative or Liberal. What you actually do depends on the structures and systems you believe comprise this world.

12. Reminds me of the saying (use drawl) "are you dumb, or just plain stupid"
lol - I know it matters, but the end result is the same - evil!
