Bush Administration Getting Desperate (KOMO TV commentary from Seattle)
Don't always agree with Ken, but he hit a homerun out of Safeco Field with this one....

Ken Schram Commentary: Bush Administration Getting Desperate

July 12, 2004

SEATTLE - At least now I understand last week's terror warning better.
When the nation was told that terrorists might do "something", "somewhere", "sometime" in the future, it was a set up. It was meant as a backdrop to suggest postponing the presidential election.

That's why we've got the guy that George W. Bush appointed to chair the commission on elections talking about how he needs the authority to do just that.

That's why Homeland Security Chief Tom Ridge is exploring how to do it.

And that's why congressional Republicans are saying it's prudent to plan. Prudent for who? A president who thinks more time might help him win?

Right now, the discussion is focused on delaying the election in the wake of an actual attack. But who is naive enough to believe that the next step would be postponing the election because of a threat of attack.

That this is even being talked about out-loud shows how desperate and dangerous the Bush administration really is. To use the threat of terrorism as a tool to deny Americans their right to vote, is beyond my imagination.

But obviously not beyond theirs. I'm coming to the realization that nothing is beyond them.

Now, I don't remember the details, but I do remember writing Ken Schram a nasty-gram a over some rah rah bush editorial recited on KOMO... Glad to see he's come to his senses.

5. They are Treading on DANGEROUS Grounds Here!

We had presidential elections twice while war was bein fought on our own land (1812 & 1864) and they went off without a hitch. I don't think that even the most ardent bushies are comparing him to Madison or Lincoln. Hell, I don't even remember the last time I heard one of them refer to him as smart!

8. he's local
Does right-leaning or centrist editorials on KOMO-TV4 (ABC affiliate) in Seattle, and used to host a Sunday Evening 'Town Hall' program, kind of like the old Donahue format.

11. Go Ken!
Normally Schram does "angry white male" pieces: absurd lawsuits, bad lawmaking and government waste. If Ken Schram wants * gone it shows the dynamics have changed. The type of voter we have given up on in recent years is back in play.
