The Republicans have sure come a long way since then.

Reagan was an evil man who turned the GOP (and forced the Dem Party under Clinton to go hard right) into what it is today (welfare for corporations and cutting welfare for people).

1. The purge of liberal Republicans began with NIXON, not Reagan.
The ugliness is older than you think. They still believe that Nixon's resignation was part of a horrible plot by the liberal Democrats. That's why it was so TERRIBLY important to impeach Clinton. Fair being fair, and all.

2. Well

The ironic thing is that Nixon was more liberal than Clinton with his helping those who were in poverty.

He appointed Patrick Moynahan to head the poverty program.

Clinton threw millions of poor off the welfare roles.

I think it may just be better to give people living wages, and then we wouldn't need welfare.

3. It was said that he also proposed universal health care.
It didn't go very far. Too socialistic.
