Freepers Attempt to Deny Whoopi Goldberg Free Speech
Edited on Tue Jul-13-04 02:21 AM by tritsofme
GOPERS WANT WHOOPI'S 'FAST' EXIT

WASHINGTON — Some Republican activists are launching a boycott of SlimFast diet products to protest SlimFast spokeswoman Whoopi Goldberg's X-rated rant against President Bush at a New York fund-raiser for Democrat John Kerry last week.
Chat pages on pro-Bush Web sites like FreeRepublic.com are posting links for complaints to SlimFast or parent company Unilever, along with reports from angry consumers about what they wrote in their complaints.

A typical one: "Realize that when Goldberg insults our president, particularly in such a vulgar fashion, she alienates half the country . . . Can SlimFast really afford to lose half of their potential market?"

SlimFast executives yesterday didn't respond to questions about whether they intend to keep Goldberg as spokeswoman. Company president F. Daniel Abraham is a major Democratic donor who, with his wife, has given $1.2 million to groups working to defeat Bush.

2. I wonder if she would have done that
without running it by Slim fast first? I don't know much about that kind of thing, but it just seems like she would be obligated to, NO?

3. Forgive me for being obtuse.
But how exactly does that limit her right of free speech?

Let them boycott their little hearts out. They could (and already have) do a whole lot worse.

8. Here's how it would "work" at my house!
Assuming we were inclined to boycott Slim Fast, which of course we're NOT:

Bake: "We're boycotting Slim Fast because Whoopi Goldberg said nasty things about the President."

Mrs. B: "I don't give a rip what she said about him, bring home the damn Slim Fast!"

Bake: "Yes dear."

So much for the boycott.

9. A boycott doesn't limit her free speech.
She is free to say whatever she wants, the Repugs are just using their pocket books to express their feelings about Slim-fast's spokesperson. Hell, there were calls to boycott Laura Schlessinger's sponsors when she made those hideous remarks about gays - were we limiting her free speech?

No - not at all. Hopefully, the amount of business she pulls in for Slim-Fast will outshadow the (probably meager) business that the Repukes pulls from them.

11. Quite Frankly, the Starr Report insulted the president in a vulgar fashion
What's worse. . .a private citizen telling some Bush Jokes, or an official govt document posted on the internet w page after page of graphic description of Bill Clinton's Blow Jobs?
