Poll question: Who is the more decisive leader?

Results of AP-Ipsos poll on the personal qualities of the presidential candidates

The Associated Press
Monday, July 12, 2004

(07-12) 22:55 PDT (AP) --

The Associated Press-Ipsos poll on the personal qualities of President Bush and Democrat John Kerry is based on telephone interviews with 1,000 randomly selected adults, including 804 registered voters, from all states except Alaska and Hawaii. The interviews were conducted July 5-7 by Ipsos-Public Affairs.

The results were weighted to represent the population by demographic factors such as age, sex, region and education.

(QUESTIONS ASKED OF REGISTERED VOTERS)

Now I'm going to read you some words that might be used to describe a person. As I read each word, please tell me whether you think the word describes George W. Bush. Now please tell me whether you think the following words describe John Kerry or not

DECISIVE

Bush

* Yes, 67 percent

* No, 31 percent

* Not sure, 2 percent

Kerry

* Yes, 45 percent

* No, 49 percent

* Not sure, 6 percent

Is being decisive necessarily a good thing?

1. Man.
Enough with the Hitler comparisons. I dislike Bush as much as the next guy, but I think this is just ridiculous.

2. Fuck that noise, OK?
If fear is the tool used to manipulate opinion, and "you're either with us or you're against us" is therefore seen as being "decisive", then the comparison is appropriate.

7. I don't see
"You're with us or you're against us" as decisive. I think it's how simple, limited people think. Everything is black or white.

3. M'self, I think that not calling Junior...
... a junior Hitler is simply playing into the right's hands.

He's a dictatorial personality. He's said so, himself. He's a bigger asshole than Hitler and not nearly as smart. About time the Democrats started describing him accurately.

5. Sure.....
Bush is decisive. However his decisions have been consistantly wrong. What good is being decisive if you're always making the wrong decisions? I wonder what the poll results would reflect with that little caveat added?
Kerry's decision to have Edwards as VP is one that resounds with many, many people. A good decision. So far he's batting 1000% with his decision making skills.
