McCain: Same-sex marriage ban is un-Republican
Looks like old Johnny Mac is fighting for the soul of something that has long lacked such a thing. Either way, so-called "president" Bush's latest politically inspired and divisive hate initiative looks now to be little more than a bloated corpse floating face down in the river.

Washington (CNN) -- Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona broke forcefully with President Bush and the Senate GOP leadership Tuesday evening over the issue of same-sex marriage, taking to the Senate floor to call a constitutional amendment to prohibit the practice unnecessary - and un-Republican.

"The constitutional amendment we're debating today strikes me as antithetical in every way to the core philosophy of Republicans," McCain said. "It usurps from the states a fundamental authority they have always possessed and imposes a federal remedy for a problem that most states do not believe confronts them."

1. Novakula Went After Begala
When Begala grouped McCain with Giuliani and Ahnold as people who were not in favor of this thing.

Looks like Paul was right and the Douchebag Traitor was wrong once again.

6. Nofacts just loves to betray peoples' trust...
Now he's "outed" a confidential letter from William F. Buckley to Ron Reagan--with Buckley's "permission", of course. :eyes:

Oh, well--at least he can't be prosecuted as a traitor to his country for THAT one!

Looking foward to Ron having the last laugh at the Democratic Convention, though.:eyes:

2. The Flip Flop Master Does It Again
Talk about a guy who gets a media free pass.

He gets a ton of praise when he does something like speaking out against this biggoted bastardization of the Constitution, yet he'll go running back into the GOOP hive when it comes to stem cell research or a woman's right to choose.

He plays all sides of the fence, and now is really having fun as he sees his party crumbling and he's standing above all the shit. But just in case, he plays "loyal soldier" so if Bunnypants is re-selected, he isn't banished to "liberal hell".

4. Trouble is, Dub & Co. are only for "States' Rights"...
Edited on Wed Jul-14-04 08:59 AM by GainesT1958
When those "rights" suit THEM!

Well, I guess John McCain is showing he still has some principles after all...guess he really DIDN'T like the way he was "featured" in Dub's ad. Chip Rove needs to learn a hard lesson: using a man whose wife and kids you previously insulted with glee is NOT a good idea!:eyes:

If making a "Hate Amendment" a "wedge issue" is really one of their best shots this time out, truly they are in a HEAP of trouble!:D

5. So why does he still campaign for Bush?
Do they have some dirt on him or something? I just don't get it.

7. For anyone who thought that bush* would drop cheney for McCain...
this should put an end to that possibility.

Their fringe RW base is all they have left. And even they are pissed that Bushco isn't fighting the fundy issues hard enough. They can't go with McCain as a veep.
