Ditka running is not comparable to Ventura or Arnold

Both Jesse V and Arnold won as a result of very unique circumstances. In both cases it was a protest vote against what was perceived as governmental incompetence in one case, and a lack of faith in the candidates of the two major parties in the other

Remember, Ventura won in a THREE way race against two very unpopular major party candidates. He won the governorship with only 37% of the vote.

In California we all know the backlash against Gray Davis and his perceived incompetance.

Illinois does not present either of these conditions to any great extent. Obama is a fresh young face with high approval ratings, and any blame for incompetance will go against the incumbent party. Plus it's a two man race.

People have to be primed to vote against something through frustration or anger. Obama is the fresh face...he doesn't represent the establishment or governmental incompetance. I just don't see Ditka pulling away that many people who have already decided to vote for Obama.
