Ney of Freedom Fries fame calls Dean irresponsible over paper ballots.
This is so stupid as to be funny.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2004/07/14/politics1814EDT0781.DTL

SNIP.."Left-wing groups like yours ... that are exploiting this issue to inflame your supporters and raise money for yourselves are recklessly making claims that are unsupported by the facts," Rep. Bob Ney of Ohio said in a letter to Dean.

Ney chairs the House Administration Committee and was one of the chief sponsors of the Help America Vote Act of 2002.

"You should realize that if your demands to retrofit all electronic voting machines with printers before November 2004 were met, it would ensure an electoral meltdown that would make our last presidential election look orderly by comparison," Ney wrote....."

Ney, you must make the GOP very proud.

6. Good. If he wants to take on Dean...HAHAHAH. Let him try.
I do give Dean props for toughness. And on this issue the data is with Dean.

Ney won't know what bit him.

4. Not only is he "Diebold's Congressman". . .
but he is also the primary blocker of those who wish to bring Rush Holt's HR2239 to the floor. He's had it locked it in commitee since it's introduction last May. The guy is a dolt. He should be pestered mercilessly.

Rush Holt's legislation could potentially ameliorate the problems inherent in the newly implemented and most nefarious electronic voting machines. Why can we not get the same paper receipts from voting that we get when we play the lottery or withdraw dough from an ATM. . .Diebold manufactures those machines as well?

He's doing nothing more than blocking our democratic process.

Bug him. He's ignoring me as I've written him too much already.

3. If they can't change the electronic machines by November...
...then we should vote on plain paper ballots, as people did for centuries.

5. The problem with these
voting machines is that they are overseen by the two major parties. There is no independent oversight committee overseeing our elections. Every few months Jimmy Carter, with an independent group of observers, oversees an election in an emerging democracy. I think that we need that here. Someone to oversee the technological advances that have been made.

I don't know if we can find an independent group to oversee elections here. Everything is so polarized.

7. Marcy Kaptur: Freedom Fries petty compared to elections.
http://www.fcw.com/fcw/articles/2004/0621/web-rally-06-22-04.asp

SNIP..."Time is running out for this year, Holt said. "Unless we act very soon, we will not have in place for this fall's election the degree of trust that every voter deserves."

Holt did not identify Ney by name as the reason the bill remains in committee, but Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) did.

Ney, she pointed out, led the effort to rename French fries "Freedom fries" at the Capitol, which she considered petty compared to the integrity of the election process."

I called Ney's office about the fries issue last year. They were absolutely convinced they were right, and they thought it was so funny.
