George W. Bush: The Greatest American Hero |
|
Look at what's happened to me, I can't believe it myself. Suddenly I'm up on top of the world, It should've been somebody else.
Believe it or not, I'm walking on air. I never thought I could feel so free-. Flying away on a wing and a prayer. Who could it be? Believe it or not it's just me.
Just saw F911 - for the second time - tonight. One of the most brilliant scenes of the movie is the one in which Mike juxtaposes the sappy themesong of the lame 1980's TV series "The Greatest American Hero" against Dubya's little aircraft carrier strut. "It should have been somebody else." Indeed.
The movie's just as powerful the second time around. This time, even the scene in which the Congressional Black Caucus contests the 2000 election brought tears to my eyes. Go Maxine!

1. I felt the same way (and I'm not black).... |
|
...to be honest, the way that Gore was asking (considering he had a lot to be gained/lost) do you have a Senator's signature? He KNEW there wasn't one to be had....move on....move along. He didn't care/want one (why? don't know) or he was just afraid (and hence, 'controlled'...just like so many of our other 'leaders')

3. and where was the INFORMED constituency telling it's representative |
|
SENATORS to SIGN!!! I think our Senators and Representatives may have been out there slugging it all alone. They may WANT to do well for the people they represent, but if the people don't bother to pay any attention AT ALL....well, it's all too tempting to lean towards the corporations and the ones who ARE paying attention, wouldn't it?!
We have our own selves to blame as well. But, it doesn't have to be THAT way any more. America is (supposed) to be a democracy....so let's have our voices be heard (and represented) fairly.

5. Yes, but most of us didn't even know this was happening. |
|
I can't believe how many F911 posts I've seen here where otherwise well-informed DUers said they'd almost forgotten this had happened - or hadn't even heard about it in the first place.

6. Yes, but it doesn't have to happen ANY MORE. |

If we're gonna 'live by the law' - we better know the law 'inside and out'....and not in some outreagous yelling way....really know/understand it. If the 'system' has any legitimacy at all...then, work within the system.

2. I cried more the second time too |
|
And I agree, the scene with Maxine was even harder to handle the second time. I couldn't figure out why that was. You'd think you'd be prepared for the emotional scenes, and less likely to cry. Basically, I spent the whole movie in tears.

....I cried more the second time I saw it...I still haven't figured out why.
The parts that really grabbed me the second time around, were not the parts I cried at during the first viewing.
I could feel my eyes tearing up at the very beginning with Gore and then with representative after representative coming forward.
I thought it was just me....glad to know I'm in good company!
Cheers, Kim :toast:

10. "No Senator has signed this objection - and I don't care!" |

Gore: "The law cares" Assholes in Senate: "BWA-HAR-HAR HAR HAR HAR".
I shed tears too. It was like looking back into the 1950's before the Civil Rights Movement. White folks just laughing at the Negros "Look it im monkeys trying to get uppity, who ur they tryin ta kid, HAR HAR HAR"
Laughing their derisive, condescending little laugh.
I have rarely felt such anger at my government as when watching that horrible, sad scene - the black caucus just trying to get some semblance of justice only to get laughed at and beaten down... again.

in the dark theater with only a foreboding silence. . .then, the audio of the planes hitting the towers. It made my heart tear and my eyes tear up. God, the first time, I thought I'd have to leave the theatre (And I'm normally a composed guy). I could barely take it. I remembered everything. I remembered sitting in school, watching the towers burn, engulfed in a thick, black smoke coiling around them. I remembered watching the people jump, jump from the top of the towers rather than die in the flames. . .god, it's hard just to think about it.

13. It was such a dignified but extremely powerful way... |
|
...to relate that episode without exploiting those pictures once again. And the footage of the woman crying, "Dear Lord they're jumping," really nails it.

Anybody else remember -- the protagonist's name was supposedly "Hinckley" but had to be fixed in post-production because it turned out that was the name of the man who tried to assassinate Ronald Reagan. (And he was supposedly a friend of Neil Bush!)
