The Constitutional Amendment is Moving to the House BECAUSE?
If this isn't a monumental waste of money, I don't know what is. The pukes lost in the Senate. Not only didn't they get 60 votes...They didn't even get 50. God talk about wasting money.
By the way...
Kudos to Republican Senators Olympia Snowe (ME), Susan Collins (ME) (Two Republican Senators that I have nothing but respect for), John McCain (AZ), John Sununu (NH), Lincoln Chafee (RI) and the turncoat Ben Campbell (CO) for voting against this foolishness.

A HUGE F**K YOU to Democratic Senators Zell Miller (GA), Robert Byrd (WV) (I've always hated him anyway), and Ben Nelson (NE).

1. I wouldnt be so quick to condemn Byrd on a procedural vote

He may have thought it ought to be voted on on principle and since it was going down to a decisive defeat.

Or not ...

2. Because Sanatorium and Company
want to know exactly which Reps to slime later on. They know which Senators- after yesterday's vote.

vote later in the Senate?

Or the republicans need to get names on record who voted for it and who voted against it for campaign fodder. God forbid they have to defend the invasion or the federal deficit. Hitler had the Jews. Republicans have gays and lesbians.

P.S. On reconsideration, Hitler had gays and lesbians too, but it didn't give him as much political mileage as the Jews.

6. NO! They want to flail this as a wedge issue and increase ...
fundamentalist turnout for the gops.

Very clear what they are doing.

7. Because the House pays NO ATTENTION to the will of the people.
Return with us now to those Golden Days of Yesteryear, when two-thirds of the American people were solidly AGAINST the impeachment of Bill (Lawfully-Elected) Clinton. Did that stop the House from stampeding over the cliff? HELL, no.

When it became known that the House case was DOA in the Senate, did THAT stop the House? HELL, no. The House Managers goose-stepped into the Senate, smirking all the way, even when they KNEW they were going down in flames!

The amendment is moving into the House because the House has no shame.

:argh:
dbt

Make no mistake; both Houses of Congress are bought and paid for. The Senate does a slightly better job of denying it!

8. That's something I don't understand myself....
The House is supposed to be the more direct voice of the people, yet they act like anything but that. Yet the Senate, who are there to represent STATES seem to be better able carry out the people's wishes. We need to be rid of the damned congressional limit of 435 Congresspeople, so Representatives can actually represent US.

11. He is beloved...
.... because he is about the only senator who stood up and repeatedly, forcefully and eloquently denounced the plans for the Iraq war.

I think he deserves some credit for that. As for the vote yesterday, it is impossible to tell what it meant really.

As to Miller he's an a**hole masquerading as a human being. And a puke wearing a Democratic label. I wouldn't give him the time of day, or save him from a burning building.
As for Senator Nelson, I know very little of the man. I'm amazed he got elected in nebraska. He's a friend of former Nebraska Senator Bob Kerry.
I'm not defending either man. I'm just not willing to give either Byrd or Nelson a ride on this. As to Miller -- cheney him. He should have had the courtesy to get the Hell out of the Democratic party and register Republican.
But I understand your reasoning and do not necessarily disagree with your logic.

20. I don't think Nelson or Byrd are addressing
the Republican convention.

Miller is, if I understand correctly.

14. Guess they just need to work on that uniting theme.....
Seriously, they just figure that they can divide people, plus it gives the added bonus of them being on the news every day pushing off more important news.

I cannot believe that these people keep getting reelected.

15. Because they know Bush is losing
My guess is it's a way to get the religious right all riled up, so it's a win either way, and probably a bigger one in terms of voter turnout after the amendment fails.

I'm seeing it in the same light as the election-tampering fearmongering and the trotting out of the twins.

16. JUST TO BE FAIR -- the vote was not against the amendment
itself. The vote was for cloture (ending debate). Although voting to continue a filibuster signals opposition to the amendment, voting to end debate doesn't really say anything, since someone can just want to end debate, vote up or down, and see the amendment crushed.

Byrd and Nelson indicated they would have voted against the bill, but wanted to end debate, or so says Kos.
