I heard an interesting theory about Nader....
That he had no intention of staying in the race but his being in the race kept other possible "independents" from entering the race and influencing the outcome of the race in November? That he will indeed drop out of the race when it is certain no one else can organize an independent run? Interesting thought....Would Ralph's ego permit him to do such a thing? :)

1. I would guess this is a ploy
If Dems think Nader will eventually drop out, they will stop examining his unethical machinations to get on the ballots in the battleground states. Nader will then have the capability to throw the election to Bush just as he did in 2000.

The bottom line is that Nader hates Dems more than he hates Bush.

2. One nice thing about that theory
Hard to disprove from this angle. I mean if he did this, he still has to act like a real candidate. He has to act like there is no chance he would drop out. So there's no way we would know the difference.

However his decision to campaign in swing states is telling. I guess I don't buy this theory, although it'd be nice to believe.

3. no way
he ran the whole time in 2000 and ran in the swing states and campaigned in the swing states in the final days. he WANTS to be a spoiler. he WANTS to disrupt the election. he WANTS the Democrats to lose. if he did not want the Dems to lose he would not have campaigned so hard in the swing states in 2000 and he would not even try to get on the ballot in the swing states in 2004. but he did and he is.
