Education Sec. Paige Blasts NAACP Leaders

WASHINGTON (AP) - Rod Paige, the nation's first black education secretary, condemned NAACP leaders Thursday for saying some black groups are fronts for white conservatives.

"You do not own, and you are not the arbiters of, African-American authenticity," said Paige, who rose from segregated Mississippi to become President Bush's education chief.

Paige's comments, in a Wall Street Journal column titled "Naked Partisans," appeared on the same day Bush's challenger, Democrat John Kerry, was speaking at the annual convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in Philadelphia. Bush is at odds with the NAACP and has not spoken to the civil rights group since his 2000 campaign.

Paige took aim at two NAACP leaders, chairman Julian Bond and president Kweisi Mfume, for what he called "hateful and untruthful rhetoric about Republicans and President Bush." At the convention, NAACP officials have described some black organizations as mouthpieces of white conservatives and have said Bush's education law disproportionately hurts minorities.

1. Is this the same Rod Paige who enhanced his crediblity
by likening the teachers' union to a terrorist organization?

If you watched CSPAN this morning, you were confronted with the evidence of this.

Massie, Mychal, Columnist, WorldNetDaily.com was supposed to be on as promoted:
Mr. Massie will talk about Black conservatives' views of the NAACP, politics, and issues important to blacks. Mr. Massie is a member of the National Advisory Council of Project 21. It is an organization that calls itself a national leadership network of conservative African Americans.

The group was organized by The National Center for Public Policy Research. Both NAACP President Kweisi Mfume and Chairman Julian Bond criticized President Bush for not speaking at the NAACP convention in Philadelphia this week. Mr. Mfume also criticized conservative black organizations, saying they are usually formed and funded by whites and that they "won't work" in undercutting the NAACP.

However, he couldn't make it, so a WHITE staffer affiliated with the same GOP operatives the NAACP was slamming addressed these charges and took calls. Imagine the irony and hypocrisy of that.

Here's the thread from this morning.

7. you could hardly call that guy a 'staffer'...he was the CHIEF of the group
running the whole reTHUGlican KKKarl rovian operation....

IMO, this morning's C-span interview of the Project 21 Chief was an eye-opener.....the emporer has NO CLOTHES, and the KKK are so arrogant that they no longer think they need a Black 'house-boy' to front for them anymore...they just put up the real KKK and it's totally OK with many people, including the C-span moderator...

2. NAACP is correct to say that
some black groups are fronts for white conservatives.

This one for example

African American Republican Leadership Council

Alex-St. James
Chairman

Senator Edward W. Brooke, III
Honorary Chairman
(R-MA) Retired

David Keene
Honorary Co-Chairman
Chairman, American Conservative Union

Hon. Winsome E. Sears
Local and State Co-Chairman

Advisory Panel
Steve Baldwin
Gary Bauer
Ken Connor
Becky Norton Dunlop
Charles Evers
Sean Hannity
Richard Lessner
Connie Mackey
Stephen Moore
Terry Neese
Grover Norquist
Rev. Jesse Peterson
Rev. Lou Sheldon
Kenneth Timmerman
Paul Weyrich

OK so maybe this is a white group fronting as a black group, but the principle stands.

4. Truth hurts doesn't Rod Paige? I guess i just don't understand
how some black people can justify being republican. It's the same thing with the log cabin republicans.

5. it's an old reTHUGlican tactic...get the minorities to FIGHT within
their own ranks...keeps them from causing any problems to the rich elites....

but this time, it doesn't appear that most Black people in America are buying what the 'house boys' are selling....
