Check in if you can't stand the DNC! |
|
Boston is going to be royally screwed up in two weeks. :grr:
I sincerely wish the DNC was anywhere but here. Since nothing of consequence happens there with the current primary system, next time let 'em charter some cruise boats, and float around 200 miles off shore where they won't utterly disrupt life. Then security can consist of a few Coast Guard cutters and a submarine.
This is becoming outrageously expensive - security is now estimated as costing more than it did for the Salt Lake City games. I am dreading the commute. It's going to hurt. :hurts:
Hosting the DNC will go down as one of the worst ideas in Boston history. Bad idea Mayor Menino, bad! :spank:

1. Where is the nightmare, er, convention taking place? |
|
Personally, I can't see why the whole city would be disrupted unless it's a product of GOP dirty tricks/Homeland Security monkeywrenching, something that is not only possible but probable.
I do agree that a nice elitist Queen Mary cruise offshore would be the most appropriate venue for any paranoid convention, and I sincerely hope the G-8 discovers the idea. However, hosting the Democratic National Convention is a bit of an honor, and I sincerely hope you start putting the blame for any disruption where it belongs: Homeland Security.

2. Disruptions are widespread |
|
It's in the downtown Fleet Center, which, being located within 12 feet of I-93 and sitting over a major commuter rail hub AND being next to a major subway stop, means that 93 is shut down (yes, the 6 or 8 lane major artery is shut down and all of it re-directed onto I-95 and I-90) several miles north of the city, trains won't travel to the end of their lines into the city, the subway is stopped, buses are re-routed, etc. etc. etc.
So yup, the whole city is f*cked up, along with much of the surrounding city and town traffic patterns.

3. you're right, that was a pretty stupid choice of venue |
|
They should have held it in that monstrosity, that monument to empty consumerism out by the gas tanks on Route 3. The security there would have been a snap, and there are a dozen alternates to Route 3 for South Shore commuters (although they'd bitch no matter what).
I guess they thought the footage of the close by tourist sites (like the garbage dump near the mouth of the Neponset River) would be a little too tacky for television.
Howevr, most of the disruption will be due to Homeland Security, not the convention, itself. Just keep it in perspective.

4. I would have planned my vacation time around the convention |
|
if I lived in the Boston area. I would either have planned to attend the convention, go on vacation in another state/country or just plant my behind at home and watch the whole nightmare on TV. It's going to be a mess, I know, and I DO feel for you.
