3. Vote Absentee!
Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 12:18 PM by AndyTiedye
That looks like the only thing we can do about something like this.

Perhaps we can push something through the legislature that starts
voting early, like a day early, and keep it going for at least
24 hours.

5. I just received two emails from a friend with links to this site
including the article referenced in this thread. I was going to ask if anyone here knew how reliable this outfit is.

This is what I was sent:

Terrorism and the Election: California is the Target!
No postponement, just bedlam at the polls and a low
turnout on the west coast is Bush's plan for 'victory'
-- by Wayne Madsen "If the pre-election internal
tracking polls and public opinion polls show the
Kerry-Edwards ticket leading in key battleground
states, the Bush team will begin to implement their
plan to announce an imminent terrorist alert for the
West Coast for November 2 sometime during the mid
afternoon Pacific Standard Time. At 2:00 PST, the
polls in Kentucky and Indiana will be one hour from
closing (5:00 PM EST – the polls close in Indiana and
Kentucky at 6:00 PM EST)."

Rumsfeld Directs Missile Defense to Operate Oct. 1
--U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has quietly
ordered elements of a long-range missile defense
system to begin operating on Oct. 1, four weeks before
the 2004 presidential election, according to a U.S.
military official (see GSN, July 2). Rumsfeld’s order
appears to be a closely held secret.

13. If Fear isn't Enough, They'd Nuke San Francisco for Real
That might kill enough Democrats to turn California red.

The RW fundies really do hate us enough to do it.

Funny how Red stood for Communism, yet the Righties proudly proclaim their "red" status.

10. Wayne Madsen is pretty credible as an investigative journalist...
...and I think the scenario he outlines is also pretty credible.

I've been convinced since December 2000 that the NeoCons are capable of ANYTHING and EVERYTHING.

11. This is no different than FAUX News saying that Al Quaid may have
suitcase nukes in the U.S. It's fearmongering. There's NOTHING that the average person on the street can do about this.

12. If we say that, how can we object to pre-9/11 warnings being withheld
from the US public?

16. Specific warnings where public vigilance can help in prevention
are fine. Speculation and stories like the suitcase nukes do nothing but create free-floating anxiety.

14. The average person on the street can't stop something awful from
happening on election day, however, they could request an absentee/early ballot and vote by mail.

15. Gossip
I was talking with a person at a fundraiser last night. The person is in a position to learn a few things in Washington.

They said everything will be quiet until September, then something will happen. No details. Could be bullshit. Could be factual. Who knows? I'll keep my ears open.

17. 54 electoral votes could easily turn the election.
If the Fraudministration were to intimidate enough voters into staying home in CA, they could throw the whole game, claim legitimate victory and denounce anyone who questions it as "sore loserman II".

True, they would be disenfranchising repukes in Orange county and rural California repuke strongholds as well, but that's a small price to pay for neutralizing the "big prize"

18. Small quibble
Do the calculations still work using the states' 2004 electoral votes rather than the numbers for 2000?
