Ninety percent of Blacks consider Democratic Party their Party.... |
|
Listening to a black spokeswoman for the Republican Party on Judy Woodruff's show, one might think that the black Democrats are deserting their Party in droves for the greener pastures on the Republican side. I guess I look at it a little differently than some? More blacks percentagewise think the Democratic Party speaks for them than whites do? They must believe that for a reason? One could argue that the Democratic Party is really more the Party of black interests than white interests, if we were discussing Party affiliation from the racial standpoint only.
However, the Repubs will do whatever they can to divide our nation in any way they can if it somehow wil give them a political advantage. I trust that 90% of black people know which Party is their Party and gives them the greatest opportunity to live like an "average" American and they understand and appreciate their white brothers and sisters that belong to their Party.

I'd like to think the Dems are the party of the poor and the workers too |
|
though it seems to be less and less the case at the party level. Thank heavens there are still Dennises and Howards in the party.

1. You mean, in spite of the steady stream of stories about new black GOPers? |
|
Odd, they seem to be popping up in newspaper after newspaper, all at roughly the same time . . .

I saw a flash on the TV.
I wonder if the CNN flack asked her about that comment? In light of the heartburn over Whoopi Goldberg.

3. Well, that just can't be right! |

Every time I see a Negro on the teevee, she or he is a Republican! Well, if they're wearing a suit and talking that is, and not runnin' real fast or catchin' a ball like God intended those people to do. I NEVER see a Negro on teevee talking about the Democrat party, so that 90% thing must be bogus.
Gotta run now, Bill O'Reilly's on.

I think you are right that most black people understand quite well which party has the better chance of helping them, but most are not kidding themselves that either party is going to do much.
What I find a bit more alarming is my recent discovery of voter registration. Sorry I don't have anything sexy like statistics to back this up, but since I've moved to Natchez, Ms. I've been spending a lot of time trying to figure out why a state that has a majority of black citizens would have a governor like Haley Barbour (who actually makes Ashcroft look good). Finally got a look at demographics and in district after district, white voters VASTLY outnumber black voters. Some of this, of course, is helped by the recent republican redistricting but not nearly enough to cover up the fact that in this state, at least, I don't think that many blacks are registered. Is that weird?

9. You should read more on the subject |

Black people in those states have suffered through years of violence and oppression, particularly with respect to voting registration. Their experiences cannot be pigeon-holed into one of your formulaic catgories

10. Didn't say it was a simple reason, just that it seemed to be the end |

result.
I know that if I was turned away from the polls enough in one manner or another, I too might give up on the system. Come to think of it, I have, which is why I am a third party member.

8. Every four years we hear the same story |

that blacks are abandoning the Democratic Party. This is a fantasy. Did you catch this morning's CSPAN Washington Journal? The Project 21 guy...was white! This is an organization dedicated to the goals of black conservatives. And they couldn't field even one black representative? Just like Congress! The one black guy's car broke down. Really. And there was NO ONE ELSE except a white guy to, get this, refute Mifune's thesis that organizations like Project 21 are merely fronts for white conservatives with black "puppets." Oh, the irony. Delicious.
