MEME MEMO: Bush* is not stupid
He's EVIL. He's DANGEROUS. He's A CRIMINAL. He's MORALLY BANKRUPT. Take your pick. But whatever you do, don't paint Bush* as stupid. That lowers people's expectations. It's one of the primary reasons he's been allowed to get away with so much. It makes him a joke, not a threat.

And he IS a threat.

He's not stupid. He's not crazy.

He's DANGEROUS.

Say it loud. Say it often.

The MEME MEMO: Taking back the language for the forces of good.

1. I agree - attacking his intelligence didn't work in 2000
We need to focus on the fact he is dangerous and out-of-control.

4. Bush is quite stupid.
He's not the brains of the operation. All he's supposed to do is go out and say his lines. He can't even do that correctly. Bush is simply a stuffed shirt like Reagan, but not as good at fooling the people.

7. Even if he is, it's dangerous to say so.
The GOP played the "Bush is stupid" meme like Nero's frickin' fiddle in 2000. We can't let them do it this time.

Problem is its not only a GOP meme its a Dem meme as well.

Its like they are covering for the crimes.

Watch bush become dimmer and less articulate as his power grows

In the late 80's he was engaged articulate and driven.

EVIL EVIL EVIL

15. No, he's ignorant on most issues. There's a difference.
He is also known to be extremely canny, so "stupid" doesn't really apply. He's willfully ignorant on every issue important to the office it stole, but that doesn't mean he's stupid. And he is most certainly dangerous.

18. CW is right. I would contend gsh999 that bush* IS saying his lines
correctly. They've jus twritten the script for him to be an inept bumbling fool so the bar is so low all he has to do is show up and he's the winner. See the 2000 debates for background. If you haven't seen F911 yet, there is old bush* footage and he's much more lucid and able to speak correctly and everything. What you are seeing is a character he's playing and it's predicated on US continuing the "stupid" theme.

Not that I think he's so smart or anything, it's more like he's so bankrupt morally, he's able to become something he's not without regard to what it means to others.

We should preface all arguments with, bush* is the "first MBA" president, I expected he could handle the economy better, blah blah blah. As a Yale graduate, why can't bush*.... With all that taxpayer funded military training in TANG, why can't bush*....

The reality of his actions will be put in a much more difficult light that way, IMO.

Added: however I really have to disagree with her on * being mean. He made be a jovial sorta party guy to those around him, but there are too many incidents that point to a sadistic streak.

BUZZFLASH: Switching gears a bit, is the caricature of Bush as sort of an airhead an accurate one?

IVINS: No. I think I've said this several thousand times in my life. George W. Bush is not stupid, and he's not mean. You know, it is possible to really independently disagree with a politician's policies without personally hating him. You know, grownups can do that. It's feasible, believe me.

You don't have to turn into, you know, the liberal equivalent of the Clinton hater in order to think that this guy's just completely screwing up the country. No, he's not stupid. He is very limited, however.

It's not stupidity as much as ignorance, and his inability and unwillingness to learn. He's not very curious. And it's not a first-rate mind. I mean, you get him to a certain point in a discussion, and if you ever hear him talk about "my instinct" or "my gut tells me," then you know we're in trouble. Then you know we have left the realm of facts and logic and where we're going is something else altogether.

IVINS: In "Shrub," we recount a long discussion Bush had with a reporter about the death penalty, the day that Karla Faye Tucker was executed. And they really had a serious talk about it. And at the very end of it, Bush said, "I know there is no evidence that shows that the death penalty is a deterrent. But I just feel in my gut that it must be true." Okay, now this is a guy who thinks that that is as good as, or more important, than evidence, than fact.

14. That's what John Dean says also
He says Bush is "ignorant by design"
I like that way of putting it and I generally trust his insight on things. He had to deal with a master after all -- Nixon.

16. When it comes to taking back the language, we can't be subtle.
Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 05:05 PM by ClassWarrior
I understand the nuance of that statement, but average folks who aren't paying attention won't. We cannot allow Dubya off the hook with "stupid." He's DANGEROUS.

17. I agree
nuance is wasted in the larger marketplace. Have to speak the language of the masses.

He is fully aware of what goes on. Saying he is stupid can allevialte some of his guilt.

19. He's dumb but he is dangerous
Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 06:16 PM by Piperay
I would rather deal with someone evil and smart than someone dumb and evil. The most dangerous of all is someone who is dumb and cornered.

On edit: I understand your point I agree it is in our best interest not to go around saying he is stupid but nevertheless I truly believe he is an evil idiot.

20. Preach it.
I totally agree. That's why people felt SORRY for him during the debates with Gore when he got his ASS handed to him. They thought of him as maybe not an intellectual giant but a nice guy and felt sorry for him.

No longer. Too many have seen what he is capable of now.
