Riggs Bank? Gee I wonder who's a major player in that bank?

Could it be the chimp's uncle?

Good gawd a mighty. It never stops does it?

Notice the Yahoo article didn't mention the BFEE connection with the Bank that laundered for the Fascist?

EDIT!!! Dammit...This is Jan Michael not Steph (Misinformed01)...

2. What galls me is that, tah da! The story forgets the BushCo connection.
Shocker, ain't it?

6. Yep. As shocking as reading a Nazi Paper omitting the fact
that Horst Wessel was actually killed in a common bar brawl, NOT heroically battling the Communists.

I miss being in the Free World.

10. The whole investigation was ...
specifically organized not to look into Bushco. and also not to look into the Saudis. Burning Pinochet must have been a compromise.

They also barely touch on Florida, which played a major part in moving the money. J Bush & Co. was mentioned by the Treasury settlement with Riggs as one of the reasons for the fine--not covered here. Riggs was not allowed to have his sort of investment business while also being an Edge Act bank in Florida.

Report is pretty harsh on Riggs and some oil companies (Hess, Marathon and ExxonMobile--two small ones, plus and some service companies too). Also mentions that the shell companies in the Bahamas for Pinochet were set up by Deloitte and Touche.

The Pinochet stuff is damning--they worked hard to hide his money, flew a Riggs guy down there with stacks of $50k cashiers checks multiple times. Clearly Pinochet was somebody's friend.

Oh, and just noticed Jack Valenti on the bd. That's a fun one:

3. Warning
I wouldn't make to much of this type of remote connection. If you did, Democratic politicians would appear just as guilty.

8. Of course there is

However, claiming that there is a somehow some significance to the fact that a dictator deposited money into a bank that five years years later elected the president's uncle to a subsidiary's board seems a stretch. Personally, I fail to see the relevance.

14. J. Bush was involved with Riggs since 1997.
Pinochet opened accounts with Riggs in 1994 (Maybe 1995) and maintained them there, along with the hiding of accounts, until 2002.

My point, howeevr flimsy in your estimation, is that the Bush Family is almost always involved in shady big money dealings.

I think that's perfectly credible.

Under every Bush there's Dirt.

15. I understand
I'm just saying that if you checked out what companies every uncle of every polician in Congress have or had connections to, you'd probably find out people like Ted Kennedy are involved (if that's even the right word) in shady deals too.

16. But some Democratic politicians ARE just as guilty!
It's simply disingenuous to think otherwise.

Well, maybe not as guilty as the Bush clan. Hard pressed to think who could be.

Please look at BCCI and Clark Clifford. Look at Jackson Stephens and his connections. The BFEE Octopus has compromised both R's and D's. The corruption is bipartisan, deep as hell and just as longstanding.

17. Guilty of What?
Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 10:31 PM by Nederland
Having an uncle who is a member of a board whose parent company took money from a dictator years before?

Look, I see the connection between Halliburton's Iraq contracts and Dick Cheney and why its crooked. That's a direct connection. Cheney could very well be brought up on charges for what he did, but if you brought this into a court room you'd get laughed out of it.

I was referring to you. I meant there was a problem with Riggs. Sorry for the misunderstanding, if so.

11. Kick for Poppy Quotes
1) "Those boys (Shrub, Jeb Crow Shrub, Neil Shrub) have a right to make a living!"

2) "Those little brown ones over there are mine."

--------btw, regarding the B.F.E.E., how come they are not listed as the "richest in the world"? It would seem, with all of their shennigans, they must be.

13. Their money is well hidden.
Why do you think Bush overturned Clinton's decree to join the global coop to open all bank records to law enforcement by July 2001. Bush changed it to 2005. No doubt he and his cronies figured they could move the money by then.

BTW...Billions of our tax dollars just happen to be missing in Iraq right now. Freepers are so accepting of this type of thuggery from their masters.
