My grandmother is 76 years old and votes in every election. Honestly we have never discussed politics & I assumed she voted for Bush in 2000 (as did the rest of my family aside from me).
Well I decided to take her to see F 9/11. I called her yesterday and asked if she'd like to "go see a movie tonight." She said sure and I picked her up after work. in the car she asks what we are going to see and I smiled and said Fahrenheit 9/11. She responds, "oh the one about the planes crashing."
We get to the theater and sit down. Casually i ask her, "are you going to vote for Bush this year?" She starts laughing and says no way. We talked a bit more and she really likes Edwards...she is from NC, too. I asked her if she voted for Shrub in 2000 and she said no, that she had voted for Gore. I was like wow! lol
I asked her about the rest of the family...namely my aunt who voted for Bush in 2000, but had voted for Clinton back in 1996. I said to my grandma, I wonder if she is voting for him again and my grandma says no way that is happening.
The film started & I sat there very elated that at least a few of my family members were "waking up" and that my grandma voted for Gore and will be voting for Kerry.
She was very interested in the film and after it was over said that "everyone should be made to see this film."
It is nice to know there is another Kerry voter, but what really hit home is my aunt who WAS a Bush voter. This makes about 7 people I know that voted for Bush in 2000 and will not be voting for him this go around. This speaks volumes & I wonder how many people are really like this. This can't just be an isolated event in Republican-heavy Virginia.

My grandmother (turns 80 on Saturday) has already told me that it will be a cold day in hell before she votes for * again. She voted for him in 2000.

4. It's not an isolated event, and you're not dreaming |

Here in Republican heaven, also known as Southwest Florida, I've talked to many people who voted for Bush who will be voting for Kerry. I just sent an "Anyone But Bush" button home with a friend who lives in the ritzy neighborhood that Bush visited in April, picking up a cool $2.9 mil at a $25K per person "luncheon".
Apparently, not that I like rumors, some of those who forked over the $25K won't even be voting for him. Obviously, the $25K was spent to either remain at a particular "club" or some business reason. Michael Moore's buddy Roger Smith has quietly moved into the neighborhood too, just down from where the fundraiser was held.
Get the word out. The revolution of 2004 is in full swing.
Regime change begins at Home!

This is not a conversion story like so many we have been reading on DU lately, because they are long-time lefties who are totally aware of all the destruction that Bushco is bringing on us. With them it was the other way around. They weren't that interested in seeing it because they thought they knew all about it already.
So I said, just go to humor me, I want to see it again (which I did). They were absolutely rivited throughout the entire film. I think they were shocked to see the whole story set out so dramatically. The film just keeps unfolding -- one connection after another. Actually I thought it was even more powerful the second time.
And there were definitely a number of things in the film that they did not know about, even though they are about as well informed as you can be without being obsessed. It was a very moving experience to see it with them, who have been through Viet Nam, Iran-Contra, Watergate, McCarthy, the Cold War.
It's great that you took your Grandma. F911 -- the FAMILY VALUES MOVIE!
