Finding Successor For Disgraced GOP Senate Candidate Proving Hard

Following the withdrawal of Jack Ryan over a sex scandal involving his ex-wife Jeri Lynn Ryan of Startrek fame (story) Republicans have been on a hunt for a name candidate to carry the party banner.

After weeks of courting former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka, he announced late Wednesday night that he would not run.

Asked by reporters about his views on gay marriage, Ditka said, "I don't want to talk about gay marriage," and then launched a diatribe about gays

Regaining some composure he said, "I don't care whether some judge of the Massachusetts Supreme Court says it's right. It's not right. It's wrong."

Ditka was hilarious on the Today Show this morning . He lamented the double standard in making an issue out of Ryan's sexual proclivities when " we didn't make a big deal " out of Clinton's . I guess $80 Million is small change to W's base .
