Who would make a good Senate Majority Leader?
If we are lucky and the Democrats take control of the Senate again, who do you think should be majority leader?

Tom Daschle in my opinion, has been abysmal as minority leader. He has been a "Bush enabler."

I'd like to see someone different, but who?

Nancy Pelosi has been great in the House.

I think I'd go for Diane Fienstein or Charles Schumer. :-)

3. He would be great, though.
He has been fighting the good fight for a long time.

I am from Illinois, too.

2. I'd go for Tom Harkin
Though he is getting on in age, so I would also put up Russ Feingold or Barbara Boxer.

4. Durbin
I've heard that Kerry likes Durbin very much.

I'd prefer the Senate Leader to come from a more safe state. It's difficult for Daschle considering he's from conservative leaning South Dakota.

5. Sigh
First off, Daschle is pretty darn liberal as far as South Dakota congressional delegation goes.

Not pure, but liberal by every formulation.

And theres a logic to Daschle being the floor leader... Because its a small state, it is unlikely to have any great political pull in the national stage. By the caucus making Tom Daschle (from a conservative state) a powerful representative, it greatly increases his chances of being retained.

I like Daschle. I like Daschle a lot more than I like Gephardt, because Daschle doesnt roll over and cry when things dont go his way.

8. Daschle should of been dumped when Democrats lost the Senate..
I'm sure he would make a great whip, but only under a strong leader. Russ Feingold would be an effective party leader, and so would Tom Harkin.

The Senate Leader should focus on two things, keeping Democrats united when fighting Bush's legislation and making the Republicans appear ineffective as the majority party. Only this and a popular national agenda can help Democrats win back control of the Senate. It will not happen with Daschle as leader.

14. Probably
Though Illinois is not a blue state, it is just that Chicago is a very, very blue city.

I just firmly believe Daschle has got to go, whether or not we retake the Senate.

13. Feinstein sorta sucks... forget her.
She's as conservative as she can get away with in California, and then a little more.

Schumer'd be good - he's up for a good fight. My sentimental favorite is Clinton, though. It'd just drive them fucking nuts and she'd be good at it.

He's a reliable liberal from a safe state. He can take most any stand without fear of being demagogued by the 'thugs. And he obviously drives them (esp Cheney) crazy
