Where should Political Conventions be held? Esp. Presidential ones. |

I am listening to CSpan and it sounds like NYC and Boston are going to be real messes.
I live in Richmond KY - about 50,000 population. I consider Richmond a suburb of Lexington, although technically it probably isn't. I think small cities like Richmond would make excellent places to have Presidential campaigns. If 50 million dollars is being spent on Boston, imagine the money going to bring broadband, build convention centers and increase businesses in small and medium cities around the country. It would be the political equivalent of bringing the Olympics to an area.

...is key when hosting any convention. Milwaukee's even too small for a major party convention -- there simply aren't enough places for people to sleep.
That being said, put the Republicans in Houston in August. As close to hell on earth, temperature-wise, and plenty of strip clubs to keep the hypocritical bastards happy.

3. How many people do you think go? |

Richmond is about 45 minutes from Lexington and there are plenty of smaller towns around, it might be a feasible way to create transit systems in places like this.

4. The Republicans already convened in Houston--August 1992. |

Unfortunately, we had a rare cool front. It was a major disappointment; I'd really been looking forward to seeing the self-righteous idiots fry.
I believe it was set here as a nod to Bush the Smarter's re-election bid. His Houston address was a hotel--he didn't build a house here until he left Washington. Which he did sooner than he'd planned.

...and over 108,000 hotel rooms! Two major airports with-in twenty to 45 minutes driving time, two executive airports and a major airport just 80 minutes away in Tampa. http://www.orlandoconvention.com/default.asp

and have everybody live in tents. Then if anything happens, well, it's in the middle of the desert.

sort of a Burning Man festival of politics.
Bring in trailers and campers, set up temporary shelters, self contained bathroom/shower units.

Then they are no danger to the population. Imagine in NYC and Boston, a terra attack in an already congested city. The 3000 policemen would NOT be enough. And all the innocent citizens hurt just because their city was the "Chosen" one. I say put 'em in the desert. The news channels could broadcast just as well from there. And the elite would get the chance to taste of a challenging lifestyle that many citizens live in each and every day.

I'll throw out another idea. The Repukes should be forced to hold their convention in Iraq.

I hear Irkutsk is wonderfully buggy this time of year, and I don't mean software errors.

There isn't even any reason to have conventions anymore. Everything is decided before the thing starts. The delegates are now no more than a cheering audience.
